Inside "Portugal" My Polytunnel.

It's not raining here in Ireland today.   It's still too wet outside to start getting the veg plots and gardens ready for Spring.  At least there are some positive things happening in "Portugal" my polytunnel:

Welcome to my office.  My "Japs" or Winter onions are loving it inside in the containers and fish boxes.  The white containers are two polystyrene boxes/ packaging that number one son's welder came in.  It's  grown potatoes and onions for the last two years.  How resourceful is that?

I'm going to empty the polytunnel soon.  I only water it twice a week at present.

The polytunnel is also full of shrubs cuttings that have successfully rooted.  I apologize for the organized chaos.

Are you getting itchy feet and wanting to start growing things again?

  1. Portugal certainly looks busy. Not too cold for things to start growing?
We have had lots of rain these past few days, with some minor flooding. I hope it brightens up soon.

  2. Hi JayCee. Nice day here for a change. The gales haven't been too bad this winter, compared to recent years. I have got some British Queen chitting in the utility room. Think I will fill a pot full of compost and plant some seed potatoes in the polytunnel. Thanks.

  3. That's a lovely mix of plants Dave. I can see you love your gardening. I'm just loving all the green clover. And we finally have broccoli on our plants. Small but satisfying

  4. Thanks Linda. I would go mad living in the countryside next to the sea if I didn't have the polytunnel and gardens and the hills and boreens to go walking. I walked six miles today. Met a few people out walking in the fine weather. Small and fresh vegetables are the nicest. Full of sugars instead of starches, Thanks.

  5. We had some sun here this morning. So welcome, but deceptive, as it's starting to go cold again. Too early for me to start, but I have ordered by onion sets and they'll be going into modules in the greenhouse - but not for a few weeks!

  6. Dear Gardeners' Question Time,
I live in South Yorkshire. Our soil has a high clay content. This year I would like to grow a nice crop of cannabis. I wonder which variety of cannabis seeds the panel would recommend? And would I need a polytunnel?
    Thank you

  7. Hi the veg artist. Like you say the sun can be deceptive. We never seem to grow big red onions. I wonder if they prefer warmer climates? I usually plant onion sets in March. But it all depends on the weather. March often comes in like a lamb and goes out like a lion. I wouldn't mind another polytunnel🤔? Thanks.

  8. Dear Herbert Pothead. Is it for recreational use or is it to get stoned? I would recommend a polytunnel and sunflower seeds. If you feed them with fym and stake them. I am sure they will get very high. If all else fails try alcohol.

    1. I never realised you could smoke sunflower seeds. Just been out to the bird table to rescue a few. Stuck them in my Nepalese pipe and I am just gonna have my first toke. I hope they get me high man.

  11. Have you come across Robinson's Mammoth vegetable seeds? We use to drive up to near Lancaster for their Mammoth cabbages and other vegetable plants. I gave one of their giant cabbages I grew to a man on the next allotment and he won first prize in an horticultural show. It sounds like you are very well organized and you are going to have a very fruitful year in the vegetables plot and polytunnel. Thanks.
