I covered up my new spudatoes stalks on Bank Holiday Monday.
Then along came the rain and they pushed their plant hands through the soil:
Unbelievable. A tad bit of soft rain and they are under starters orders.Mother Nature seems to have had a good sleep and she's tearing to go.
I hope old Jack Frost and the wife don't put in a return. Potatoes 🥔 🥔 are supposed to grow in the Andes in Peru. Not on the south side of Bantry Bay in Ireland.
Are your potatoes chewing at the bit?
That pelleted poultry manure seems to have done the trick!
Ours were doing well until a tree branch was dropped on them. They look a bit bent now!
ReplyDeleteThey'll soon bounce back and recover JayCee. It's a very wet day today here.
ReplyDeleteMine are in bags and need earthing up, job for tomorrow, we got a bag from Lidls, loads had shoots so I have another six which can go in two bags.
ReplyDeleteI need to earth my potatoes again Marlene. The hot weather recently and now this soft rain is making them grow like mad. If somebody only grew new potatoes it would be worth doing.
ReplyDeletepelleted poultry manure = chicken shit
ReplyDeleteIt's been remarketed and called Chicken Chit YP.😀
ReplyDeleteOur potatoes this year provided a great crop. I hope you get one as well
ReplyDeleteIf frost is predicted I’d definitely be throwing something over them.
We get our chicken poop from our chickens. They in turn get garden scraps. It’s the cycle we try to maintain here.
It's good to read that you grow your own potatoes Angela. We have pigs and ponies and they get and vegetables leftovers and tops. I never use man made chemicals in the veg plot.
ReplyDeleteLooking good! No potatoes here, this year, but other shoots are beginning to push through.
ReplyDeleteThere's still time to plant potatoes Jules.
