I went for a more stroll this morning in my new walking shoes.
When I got next to the sea I noticed seaweed on the road. The white horses of waves are getting stronger by the hour.
Storm Bram is arriving tomorrow night.
It started raining but at least I got four miles of exercise in.
I wore my new walking shoes:
Regatta walking shoes and someone bought me the socks for my sixty second birthday last Friday.
I have worn the soles off two pairs of walking shoes and boots this year.
Thee other week I went to town and browsed a hiking shop. They had a lot of stuff in the sale.
I noticed a pair of size twelve Regatta walking shoes. There was no price on them. The lady shop keeper said she only that pair left. Their original price was 100 Euros . She would let me have them for thirty.
Regular blog readers know that Jean and me always looked for a bargain especially at carboot sales the summer.
I said:
"I will make them fit for that price".
The lady laughed and ai tried on the boots. I normally go for size eleven to allow for one foot being bigger than the other. Measure yours if you don't believe me. Also your feet swell when you go on long walks.
I bought two thick anti blister socks for fifteen Euros.
The boots/shoes are really comfortable and I wear another pair of socks inside the thick hiking socks.
I was pleased with my find.

That's a great bargain on your walking shoes, I hate oaying full price gor clothing. Happy belated birthday, tomorrow we gave first of school plays, but straight home afterwards.
ReplyDeleteThanks Marlene. There always bargains to be had. Especially if you wait until January when the shops are doing little or nothing. Enjoy the school plays.
ReplyDeleteThat is a real bargain find - good quality for a great price, and you'll get lots of wear out of those too.
ReplyDeleteThanks JayCee. I bought some cheap walking shoes in the summer for the same price I paid for the ones in the photo. The sole came off one after a few months. I also have my hiking boots that featured in my last post. So if wear them on alternative walks. Hopefully they will last a white. I often go through 3 pairs of wellingtons a year gardening and muckingbout the livestock..
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a great find Dave and the extra socks will be right for them and your feet. I thought about you on your birthday. My mother was a Sagittarius too, always up for adventure and an optimist like you. Thanks Dave.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rachel. Yes us Saggis always want to be somewhere else. I think that's why I like walking so much.😀
ReplyDeleteThe shoes were a bargain and something you really needed. You do a lot of walking. Fancy wearing out the soles on shoes and boots.
ReplyDeleteGood hiking
Hi Linda. The soles seem to flap and I have to throw them away.
ReplyDeleteGood find. If there's one item of clothing that's worth spending money on it's a really good pair of shoes, though!
ReplyDeleteThanks DT. It like buying car tyres. Cheap ones are no good and don't last long.
DeleteBelated birthday wishes, Dave. Enjoy your boots!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jules. Time waits for no one.
DeleteWhat a great score. There is a sock factory close to home that makes the most fabulous wool socks. I always raid the seconds bin when passing - often single socks at 50c each and I drag out mismatched colours of odd sizes close together (one foot bigger - you said so). Best hiking or working socks ever. I'll send you a pair if you can work out how to tell me where to send them without exposing your address to the world.
ReplyDeleteThanks TM. You can never have enough socks can you?
ReplyDeleteIt's important to have sturdy, comfortable footwear when you go walking. I once bought a £100 pair of boots. They fitted nicely in the shop but after the first long walk in them I was almost crippled. I never wore them again and sold them for £20 last year. Not my best purchase - that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteIt's easily done YP. I bought some cheap trainers and wore them walking around the Algarve and my heels ached for weeks.
ReplyDelete"I'll make them fit". That made me laugh. I got boots too. Snow boots. We are in another 'snow event'.
ReplyDeleteWellingtons or "the rubber boots" are required here during the Irish monsoon season Debby.😄
