Long before the petrol chemical industries started making granulate ("bag manure") fertilizer. Mustard is very good for clearing wire-worm from soil that was old pasture. I have grown it myself and strimmed it down and dug it in. I don't think you were old fashioned you looked after the land. Thanks!northsider https://www.blogger.com/profile/00716743611909673869noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1577767911269302322.post-86984272578847292642017-10-04T02:53:05.538-06:002017-10-04T02:53:05.538-06:00No veggie growing here in my garden Dave! We used to do it but we were old fashioned!Rachel Phillipshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16053924416805878169noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1577767911269302322.post-33808595598653229492017-10-04T00:04:56.469-06:002017-10-04T00:04:56.469-06:00Hi LC. I would rather grow green manures than cover vacant areas with plastic. Plastic makes a warm habitat for slugs and snails. Here in Ireland the summers seem to be getting wetter and I think using green manures will help prevent all the goodness in the soil getting washed away. Thanks for telling us about Buckwheat. I will add it to my green manure list.northsider https://www.blogger.com/profile/00716743611909673869noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1577767911269302322.post-71059556755084314142017-10-03T14:57:48.261-06:002017-10-03T14:57:48.261-06:00I'm in Louisiana, and we grew buckwheat as a g...I'm in Louisiana, and we grew buckwheat as a green manure in long narrow beds.
