Only the other night we split a tractor in 2 halves to replace a rubber seal. Worked all day in the mud and rain clearing an are yesterday. Felt absolutely knackered but also content at what we achieved. Thanks for telling me about: Operation Firewood.northsider https://www.blogger.com/profile/00716743611909673869noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1577767911269302322.post-51232845539192505072015-03-30T13:59:23.479-06:002015-03-30T13:59:23.479-06:00We live on the edge of a common and one stormy nig...We live on the edge of a common and one stormy night a tree came down. Now we can apply for commoners rights to collect firewood but t's too much bureaucracy so my other half went out under the cover of darkness and used a hand axe to sever the rest of the trunk and pulled it though the common to our house. It took about 2 hours and he couldn't see where he was going. All for free wood!! We're obsessed and we NEVER buy kindling.Kirstyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12046312998038020946noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1577767911269302322.post-80632552415678639012015-03-30T10:46:00.548-06:002015-03-30T10:46:00.548-06:00Hi Cumbrian. Years a go in Galway they use to grow fields of 'Furze' or Gorse just for firewood. When I was a lad (yes I know, nostalgia) I could earn my pocket money chopping up fruit boxes and making bundles of kindling to hawk round the doors at 3d a bundle. cumbrianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10047500383078884463noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1577767911269302322.post-13416250885530541952015-03-29T14:40:47.949-06:002015-03-29T14:40:47.949-06:00I do lots of hobs like that. As for kindling I make all my own, normally from offcuts from jobs I've done.Kev Alvitihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04992625860900617194noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1577767911269302322.post-56697183335780882082015-03-29T12:15:46.150-06:002015-03-29T12:15:46.150-06:00I have to confess to having a pine cone collection...I have to confess to having a pine cone collection as well!!!!!Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13845113520987402425noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1577767911269302322.post-51980944994558649412015-03-29T11:06:58.940-06:002015-03-29T11:06:58.940-06:00Howdy Captain pirate John. In fact, if the weather hadn't been so bad here this afternoon I was going out to do the very same thing. I lop it and then put it in empty sacks (which he also brings me) and lo and behold, I have kindling to llight the woodburner. I used to chop kindling for my mother and still have her chopper, and use it, bought over 50 years ago. Rachel Phillipshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16053924416805878169noreply@blogger.com
