Strangers In The Night. A UFO Over Bantry Bay.

We had spent all day Wednesday making small square bales of hay.  It was a really rewarding day.  The curtains in the kitchen were not yet closed and we were observing the absolutely amazing sunset.  It reminded me of the art work off a Camel or Gong record cover.

The other members of my family were watching the television next to the kitchen window.  I looked up and saw this amazing object in the sky.  I said something like:

"What the flipping heck is that?"

Then I ran outside.  They followed me shouting:

"What?"

There in the sky over Bantry Bay was this round red object crossing fast across the sky.  My wife quickly picked up her mobile phone and took this photograph.  I thought it was flying at the height of an helicopter or a hang-glider.  There was no sound of an engine!  Perhaps it was a meteorite or a unidentified flying object.  Have you ever seen anything so strange?
Another picture of the amazing sunset on Wednesday night.

Red sky at night, Shepherd's delight.  Red sky in morning, Shepherd's warning.  Red sky in afternoon, burn't shepherd's pie for tea.
Another picture of the mysterious object.

Here's an appropriate track from a great Yorkshire band:  Saxon..  It's called: "Stranger's In The Night."

Another great English band: UFO also did an album called "Strangers In The Night."  I think it's the best live rock album along  with  the Thin Lizzy classic album: "Live and Dangerous."  Gosh I need to some rock music soon.  Time to plan a city break me thinks.

Have you any unidentified flying objects stories?

  1. I have also sighted oddnesses, but then I am a sensitive and see the world in a different perspective to the majority of other people, so I am never surprised about things appearing which are not of the norm!

  2. Hi Vera, Three of us saw the object and we were luckily enough to capture it on film. I have seen ghosts and people don't believe me either. Thanks!

  3. Peter saw an object in the sky the other night and came indoors and told me about it and the colours and he was puzzled. Maybe it was the same thing you saw. I never went out and looked though.

  4. Hi Rachel, quite possibly Peter saw the object it was flying due East.

Are you going to be watching the Premiership this weekend? Seriously toying with getting Sky back. You can't even watch the test cricket on terrestrial (not extra)television these days. Do you like Saxon?

    1. I don't recall knowing anything about Saxon Dave although I am sure I must have heard them. I will watch ArsenalvLiverpool tomorrow, live at 1.30 as I will be on my own, ideal for football watching!

    2. I am sure you know Saxon songs but didn't know it was by then.

I predict the Arsenal to win tomorrow. It's going to be a great season and I think the title will be between the two Manchester clubs. Will Leicester be one season wonders?

  5. I have a friend who swears she and 3 of her family saw fast moving objects in the sky over Dartmoor. With bright pulses of light. This was in the early 90's. Her parents reported it to the police. No mobile phones with cameras in those days.

If you were Contacted and could only ask 5 questions, what would they be? Now there is a blog post.

    1. Hi Sol,

I have read that the military sophisticated flying machines that are light years ahead of what we think they have. Who knows? Perhaps there is life on other planets?

Super idea for a blog post. I would ask them if they were Manchester United fans? Do they like heavy rock music? Do the believe in God? Will you take me to your planet? Will you bring me back? That's my 5 Sol. How about you?

How about sharing your ghost story?

    1. Hi SandyExpat,

Glad you found the post interesting.

We have had a few ghostly happenings around the farm like footsteps coming down the paths and nobody there, the smell of my late grandfather's pipe tobacco and the hooded lady with the pointed nose looking through the kitchen window and disappearing. No doubt my ancestors seeing we are OK. Thanks!

  7. I saw a basket ball sized ball of a beautiful blue colour I can't describe fly silently at a low altitude over my head in the north of England one dark night about an hour after a violent thunderstorm. In the morning it was on the news that York Minster, about 100 miles away, had been struck during the night by lightning and a great fire had resulted. I also saw a ghost but that was when I lived in Wales and they were excavating Segontium Roman Fort.

    1. Hi Gwil, Once stayed in Glenridding in the Lake District and could see flash lightning miles away. We halve also experienced some weird weather here in Ireland. One storm lasted about five minutes once. Somebody said it was a mini tornado.

Would you tell us anymore about the ghost you saw in Wales? Sounds fascinating. Thanks!

    2. I read in this morning's paper about a balloon event near Bristol. They didn't give a date but there was a photo which showed a large silvery balloon floating by. Maybe one drifted over to the Emerald Isle.

Interestingly I saw a model in wax of my ghost many many years later in a museum in Hallein and it was labeled as being a Celtic chieftain, since the Celts lived in the Salzkammergut (salt mines area) and salt was more valuable than hold in those days. One still meets the odd character who reminds of a Welsh or Irish farmer in appearance. I wasn't frightened of the ghost although I was very young and had the presence of mind to check if it was an hallucination by making a 360 degree turn. When I got back to where the ghost was it was still there. When I shouted for people to come and look it disappeared. It w as just there for me only to see.

    4. I think ghosts and unidentified flying object stories give a lot of amusement to people who haven't seen them. But like your Celtic ghost and my hooded Victorian lady sighting. You know they are true.

The object we saw on Wednesday night was flying very fast in a Eastwards horizontal direction. Very odd indeed.

    1. Hi John. Not seen anything about it on the local media but I have seen previous UFO sightings in Bantry Bay area on the Internet. We live on the Western edge of Europe next to the Atlantic and that's a massive area of water. The next land is Boston in America. Thanks!

  9. its the perseid meteor shower at the moment.

I said to my brother about this and he said that the time in the 90's those people had been told it was space junk reentering the earths atmosphere. We litter even in space, how awful are we humans.

Could it have been a chunk of a satelite burning up, or even one of those new drones with lights on it?

    1. It crossed our minds that it was a drone or a meteorite Sol.

    2. As you can tell, my Brother and I have a real passion for space etc. I would be interested if you did find out what it was... No other reports of it... As you are so close to the sea, I wonder what it was. Wish I had seen it with you.

    3. Not seen any local reports Sol. I have seen UFO sightings on the Internet reported in this area. Three of us saw the spectre in the sky. The RTE news said there were meteor showers on Thursday night (the next night) and it was flying horizontal not vertical like a falling meteor. At about 500 feet, the height an helicopter flies at. I have been in a helicopter so I know that. Will let you know if we hear or see anything.

  10. Ive hurt my leg again so am inside pondering things. Anyways, I always check the Lady for vacancies and it passed over my mind, rather than sell the small holding straight away, what about something like this in Portugal and see how you like it? Like you said before and have your boys on the small holding. A try it and see type thing

I quite fancy the one in scotland myself. Just a thought. It would suit us in about 10 years time when we want to really change direction

  11. Hope your leg gets better soon Sol. I stubbed my big toe on Friday and haven't been able to do any walking.

I think we would rent somewhere for a few months before fully commiting ourselves to buying somewhere in Portugal. Then it will probably be a lock up and leave property until we can sort out visas and Irish passports because of what will happen post Brexit. Think EEC citizens can stay in another EEC country for 90 days before needing a visa. Hope you get to Scotland.
