A Week Away In The Algarve.

Things have been quiet here in Ireland because we went to Southern Portugal for a week in the sunny Algarve.  Great weather, food, drink and a family holiday was enjoyed by all. It was so to good to get away from our cold and damp Ireland.

In a town away from the Algarve coast. We noticed Sprouts growing in a border next to a drive.  I have never seen them grown like this before.  I know they like compact soil and not a lot of nitrogen or else they blow.  Have you ever grown them like this?

A lovely display of plant pots.  Just shows you don't need a big garden to enjoy your flowers.

We came back to Ireland and mizzle like rain and we are wearing jumpers and I lit the range yesterday.  It's dry today and perhaps we will get a summer like sunny Portugal this year.  Hope you're all OK and will post more Algarve photos and catch up with blogs I follow over the next few days.

    1. Hi Philip. Fingers crossed our place in the sun is in the bag. It was a brilliant week and I would recommend the Algarve to anybody wanting an inexpensive and sun filled holiday.

  2. Lucky you. I hope you had wonderful warm weather the whole time. We get days of sunshine and days of rain and dampness, like today. Never tried growing sprouts. I suppose they are a winter vegetable. Might look into them.

Our wild flowers are loving this weather and the fields are multi-coloured. Best time of the year.

    1. Hi Linda. It's the first time we didn't want to come back to Ireland. Sprouts are great and they are supposed to be a winter vegetable. You see them in the supermarkets all the time now. The smell (aroma) of the lemon and orange groves was amazing. We saw lots of wild flowers and the potato plants are about a foot high. I want to visit Greece and your islands. It's on my bucket list.

      Thanks!

  3. Hey Dave, glad you had a good time. Did you get a chance to see any properties?

  4. Hi Sol. We saw four properties. Two sold within a day because we dithered for a night. One was a renovation project that even I wouldn't consider (I did actually but somebody gave me the look of horror) and we put in an offer for an house and an annexe that needs a second fix and finishing. It was double our budget and the offer was accepted. "Yikes Scooby" I thought! Will post more news about the property in the next few weeks. Thanks!

  5. I wondered where you were Dave. Glad it all went well in Portugal. I look forward to hearing some more news about the property in due course. We saw lots of tomatoes growing in everybody's back garden when we stayed in the Algarve, not for commercial use, just the family veggie plot. I don't remember seeing any sprouts though.

    1. Hi Rachel. It was great to go back to Portugal. I will post more news about our new house in the sun over the next few weeks. Vegetables and fruit seem to be growing everywhere and you can buy them really cheaply from the markets and the side of thee roads. We saw bags of oranges for sale for a Euro.
