We had a ride over to Killarney the other day. They had proper snow. At least a foot or more in places. Up on the hills there we saw little white patches of snow. Spots instead of blots on the landscape.
Where we live down in West Cork on the Gulf Stream we only had talcum powder sprinkling nay dusting of snow.
Any road. I spotted this ever decrease pile of snow in the carpark waiting to thaw. It will never be a snow man.
The old mental jukebox began to play in my head. Have you heard of Snow Patrol? They are from Northern Ireland and Scotland.
I read somewhere online that for thirteen years they never really made it and played to audiences of twenty or less. But they stillcontinued and one day they hit the big time.
'Chasing Cars' was a massive chart success. It mentions a dog 🐕 chasing a car. Rather like a man besotted with a woman.
Have you ever been infatuated with someone or something? I would love to have played for Manchester United. But I don't play a musical instrument😃.
Do you still have dreams or have you fulfilled them or perhaps they don't matter any more? .
This is what this wonderful song is about: dreams!
See you tomorrow folks!
That snow looks a bit grubby. Needs a good hose down!
ReplyDeleteHmm.. yes, I do still have dreams but I doubt they'll ever see the light of day now.
Grey snow even dirty snow. Go on JayCee tell us more? I once was told to write my dreams/ ambitions down and I did write them down. I got to live in my own little house in the countryside by the sea and it came true. That's one of my fulfilled dreams for you.
ReplyDeleteAt school I loved maths and science, I would have lived to find a career in science, but being in a small village in Somerset in early 70's there was little chance of me following that dream. I'm happy with my life do far.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever thought of doing an Open University course Marlene? I would love to have been a herbalist or in charge of a walled kitchen garden at a big house. I don't suppose I will ever be a rock star or a roadie in a Prog Rock band either?🎸
ReplyDeleteBefore you know it life slips through your fingers like sand and dreams you once cherished may be quick to evaporate. Some things have to be done in the here and now - not in some rose-coloured tomorrow. I learnt that too late.
ReplyDeleteYes we live in a world of sand YP. The more we grip on it the more it slips through our fingers. I think most of our blog friends have done well. Yet there is always that foreman in our heads wanting more and always thinking the grass is green on the other side of the fence. I never believed in luck but I do now. Even Sir Alex said you can't win anything without luck.
ReplyDeleteThey always say around here that snow that hangs around is waiting for more. I don't think that was necessarily true though. I remember the Snow Patrol hit. I don't think I was ever infatuated with anything apart from moving around for work when I was young and seeing different places like the opposite to rural Norfolk and I achieved that. I got infatuated with a boy once and lived with him for 5 years before I saw that it was infatuation and he was messing me about and I left him. Never got caught like that again.
ReplyDeleteThanks for that Rachel. I was talking to an elderly man in Kerry and he measured the snow in his garden and it was 18 inches high. I have read there is more to arrive from the East. I was once infatuated with a middle class girl who ended up going out with my friend. She wasn't interested in me. I think you have got another poem, essay or short story there Rachel. Isn't writing easy when you write most days?
ReplyDeleteI love Snow Patrol. I never read up on them, and didn't not know they hailed from your part of the world. Chasing Cars is nice. I like Shut your Eyes as well. Thanks for reminding me. They are playing on my computer right now!
ReplyDeleteThanks Debby. There music genre is alternative rock. I think they could evolve into a Prog band if they wanted. They are definitely cerebral rock like Kansas, Rush, Yes, Marillion and Pink Floyd and other such bands. Imagine being together for 13 years before hitting the big time. I have seen lots of great bands who should have been massive. Have you heard of Magnum Debby? I have seen them twice. They should be up there with best of them.
ReplyDeleteMagnum Debby are a great band. I have all their albums. I especially like "Your Part of the World" and "Thanks for Reminding Me".
DeleteThere's a lot of bands and singers who made the big time and never should YP. Just turn on your car radio and listen to todays music. I end up putting on a rock CD.
ReplyDeleteI liked the voice and the driving rhythm in that song. Don't give up your dreams - they're essential so that you can keep going.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you liked the song Jabblog. The older I get the more I have little control on achieving my goals and dreams.
