"If There's a Bustle In Your Hedgerow."

Followers of classic rock music will know that lyric is from the magnificent Led Zeppelin rock track:  "Stairway To Heaven."    No not that cheeky chat up line line that a lad says to a young lady wearing fishnet stockings:

"Is that an hole in your stocking or is it the stairway to heaven?"

Yes a very old one.

Apparently Stairway to Heaven only made it to number 37 in the  UK charts?  How could one of the greatest rock and roll classic tracks of all time only make it to number 37?

I never got to see Led Zeppelin.  Although I have been to Knebworth.  Charles Dickens visited it too.  But not when Zeppelin played there.  Did you see Led Zeppelin at Knebworth?  I once saw Jimmy Page at the 'Monsters Of Rock Festival' at Castle Donington in 1990 appearing with Aerosmith.  If that's any good?

So what's it all about ("Alfie")?  The song I mean.  Some say it's about the Occult.  Others say it's about a dying woman rejecting materialism.  Some say the title of the blog is about a girl becoming a woman?  I dunno?  But it is a fabulous song.  Here it is:

Did I see you shaking your head or tapping your feet then?

  1. Ahhh such a classic track my good man, evokes memories of general misdemeanors as a callow youth...happy days indeed.

  2. Pleased to hear it John. Why do today's youth not grow their hair long and listen to proper rock n roll? The only rebellion I see these days is their insistence on not wearing a coat to school? Glad you appreciate real music, John!

  4. Hi Cumbrian. Gosh number 7! Other folk to cover Stairway To Heaven include U2 (seen them) Jimmy Castor (who?), Frank Zappa, The Foo Fighters, Sisters of Mercy, Nancy Wilson (seen her in Heart), Far Corporation (brilliant cover), Dolly Parton and Manchester's Elkie Brooks. It's amazing how Google makes me look intelligent.

Apparently they wrote in a rural cottage in Wales. I think they may have been at the funny cigarettes to get such incredible inspiration. Thanks!

  6. Glad you love it, Sol. A litttle 'hair' guitar even?

The Stairway To Heaven film starring David Niven was originally called: A Matter of life and Death. Believe there was also a Korean television series called Stairway To Heaven. Wonder if Kim Jong Un watched it? Apparently he's a United fan too. Just hope he doesn't make them copy his hair cut! Thanks!
