Try as I might I just cannot read those information signs. I think I need to get my eyes tested. I will have to take your word for it that it is an incredible story.
ReplyDeleteDid you click on the pictures YP? I have done it on my mobile phone and on my tablet and I can read the information.
ReplyDeleteIt's the story of a B17 United states Bomber running out of fuel in 1943 over Clonakilty and they thought they would have to land on Nazi occupied Norway. They eventually landed and all the 11 crew and and a monkey survived. Then they had an almighty Hooley. The monkey died and they lay it in state and the town came to pay their respects. It could only happen in Ireland.
I clicked and the pictures did enlarge but not enough for me to read. Is the monkey buried at Clonakilty? I guess he was the pilot.
DeleteStrange. I can read them perfectly YP. The monkey was buried with full military honours in a Clonakilty hotel garden.
ReplyDeleteWhy did they have a monkey with them??
ReplyDeleteTojo was a mascot the aircrew picked up in Morocco JayCee. They named him after the Japanese Prime minister. There's a Clonakilty brewed America pale ale named Tojo after him. It's a great story.
ReplyDeleteI am assuming that an almighty Holley is one heck of a party?
ReplyDeleteA Hooley is a wild and noisy party Debby.
