No not the name for an English Prog Rock band but the title for my post today.
I have been germinating parsnips seeds on damp paper towels in a plastic take away tray with the lid on:
Parsnips seedlings germinated in less than 7 days on top of the cooker hood. They like the heat from the cooker.
Parsnips seeds can take up to 27 days to germinate when sown outside.
You can also sow vegetables seeds this way.
Anyone else pregerminating their parsnip seeds?
Those parsnips don't look ready to eat just yet. Sliced parsnips roasted in rapeseed oil till their golden. So sweet and delicious - just like JayCee.
ReplyDeleteOh, I say.... thank you. At the moment though I fear I am a little more stringy, like those seedlings.
DeleteKeep plodding on and planning holidays JayCee. I do.
DeleteOops! I used "their" instead of "they're"! Now I will have to cane myself!
DeleteNettles are also very good.
DeleteI agree YP.
ReplyDeleteNope, no parsnips here. Rather obscure vegetable here in Greece. Like rhubarb.
ReplyDeleteOr broccoli 20 years ago. I wonder if they will ever become popular as broccoli did
Parsnips originate from the Mediterranean and the Roman's cultivated them and used them for sweeteners in cakes Linda. I use to grow parsnips for my dad and beetroots for my mum. They are a good winter vegetable. Especially after the frosts and the starches have changed into sugars.
ReplyDeleteI love roast parsnips. They remind me of Christmas.
ReplyDeleteDon't they just JayCee? I have leeks also growing in the plastic modules and peas.
DeleteI will start mine soon, I've been busy creating a small bed to grow salad bits, it's I a sunny spot, so should do well.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to have a sunny spot Marlene. I will sow my salad veg in my new greenhouse project. Just got to get around to construct a greenhouse.
