Roast Japanese Onion And Beetroot For Our Tea.

A picture of one of newly peeled my Japanese onions 🌰.  They have been mighty this year.

A beetroot and the same onion.

We wrapped them in silver foil and placed them on a metal tray and roasted them for about forty minutes.

Then we tested them by pushing a metal skewer into them to see if they were soft enough to eat.

They were ready to eat.  We ate them with some of my redina lettuce  leaves and beef burgers.  They were 😋 delicious.

Any oneelse roast their onions and beetroot,

  1. I love roasted beetroot but can't eat onions as they give me stomach pains.
Our beetroots were all destroyed by the birds this year. They plucked them all from the ground just as they had got started!

  2. Roasted beetroot are delicious JayCee. I bought my beetroot seedlings/plants from a garden centre and I sowed some more last week to harvest in October. We eat onions most days. The Allium family are great for warding off colds.

  3. Yes to roasted beetroot and onions. Either that onion is a whopper or your beetroot was too small to be weaned.

  4. Roasting vegetables is a great way to go TM. The Japanese onions are whoppers this year. They love growing in the raised beds full of fym and homemade compost and a good sprinkling of chicken pellets manure combined all the sunshine and rain.

  5. Roast onions sound delicious. I've never tried them roasted. We had beetroot the other day. Leaves and bulbs. Boiled and served with vinaigrette.

  6. Roasted onions and roasted beetroot are delicious Linda. I think beetroot originates in Russia? 🤔 It's originally a coastal plant and likes salt sprinkled on the rows when it's growing. Rachel always swore how good beetroot juice is for you. Any one heard anything of Rachel? I miss her posts and comments. Especially her travel stories, rock gigs and living in Newcastle.

  7. Have you got the recipe for roasted onion and beetroot? Why not give the concoction an exotic title - putting the name of the two principle ingredients together - Bunion de Dave.

  8. Sounds like a French chefs name.
