British-American Neo- Medieval Folk Rock On A Friday.

Why do they make these music genres?  What's wrong with prog or folk-rock?

I have been a fan of Rainbow for a long while.  No I don't mean the ITV children's programme with Bungle and Zippy.

My late friend who I told you about us feeding the Polar bears at Belle Vue Zoo in Manchester with our home made sandwiches many moons ago.  Complete with salt and pepper.

His dad used to rush and drive home home from work every dinner time to watch the programme.  I jest not.😀

No I am talking about the heavy rock band with Graham Bonnet and Ritchie Blackmore and later the great and late Ronnie James Dio.

I was fortunate enough to see Ronnie and his band Dio in 1987 at The Monsters Of Rock Music Festival in 1987. I repeat myself when I am stressed. 😀

Any way or any road.  Ritchie Blackmore formed Blackmores Night with Candice Night who is now Ritchie's wife.

Ritchie was also in Deep Purple and he is now 80.

I have followed Blackmores Night from a far for several years.  Mainly through good old YouTube.

If they were to tour West Cork and play Bantry, Drimoleague or even Dunmanway.  I would buy tickets.

They play renaissance medieval folk/heavy rock.

Here's a cover of a old Rainbow song.  Enjoy:

Ps.  They are playing a few gigs in the US in aid of animals charities.  Do your best please Debby and other cross the pond bloggers to support and see them!

  1. I guess all that genre stuff is to expand the number of hit in search engines - all unknown concepts in Mediaeval times. Great music. Thanks Dave. (Good music to build to.)

    1. Probably TM. I find them to be a breath of fresh air. I wonder where there is a medieval renaissance clothes shop near me? Good luck with the house building.

  2. The closest they came was about six hours from me. But I think that it is very neat that they do so many benefit concerts for animal charities. Very nice.

  3. Very neat Debby. It's good that very rich rock musicians are holding concerts for animal charities. I would love to see them live.

  4. I grew up with 70's rock, pink Floyd being my favourite band and Dark Side of the Moon, being the best music I have ever heard.

  5. Pink Floyd were a great English Prog band Marlene. I saw Roger Waters in 2013. David Gilmour and his daughter are recording wonderful new stuff now.

  6. I liked the silly banter at the start of that video as Ritchie played around with several openings. I saw Deep Purple a couple of times around 1969/70. They were such a big band with a huge following.

  7. Yes the banter is great fun YP. I have seen Glenn Hughes and David Coverdale live but never seen Deep Purple. Elp, Deep Purple and Jethro Tull were really big bands. Tull once hired a ship to carry their equipment.

  8. I'm not familiar with Rainbow (had to look that up), but Blackmore's Night is among my old favourites. I even have most of their albums on CD.

  10. We saw Blackmore's Night in concert at a small theatre local to us a few years ago. They were excellent. I was amazed to see a great section of the audience had dressed in costume! My husband has a lot of their music. Lizzie ( from Wales)
