Heavy Horses And Songs From The Woods

Tasker from A Yorkshire Memoir wrote an excellent post on Jethro Tull yesterday.

One of Blackpool's finest and a super prog rock band.

I have seen Jethro Tull five times and the Martin Barre band once in 2019.

I last saw Jethro Tull in 2022.  Ian Anderson can still play the flute magnificently but unfortunately his voice is a whisper of what it used to be.

They still keep the Jethro Tull name but without Martin Barre they don't seem to be that great band I loved.

In 2019 I saw The Martin Barre Band at A New Day Festival in Kent.

I particularly like the vocalist Dan Crisp who reminds me so much of a young Ian Anderson.

Here's two songs from probably my two favourite Tull albums:

  1. I have those two Jethro tull albums (and some more), copied for me by my brother some time in a hazy past. (I seem to recall he had them on vinyl, but I have them copied to CDs.)

  2. Hi Dawn Treader. I watch them on YouTube these days. I did have quite a few of their vinyl records when I was much younger. Or ask Alexa to play their songs for me. Bands have to tour these days because record sales are so small. You can't beat seeing a great band live. There's not many of the old bands who come to Ireland. Especially West Cork.

  3. When you see recent photos of Ian Anderson they look nothing like the slightly crazy but very clever creator who led Jethro Tull.

  4. No YP age condemns us all. if you put Jethro Tull in my blog search. You will see a photo I took of Ian and the band in 2022. Thanks for your comment.

    1. I saw that picture before and at the time commented on your blogpost: " I admire you for economising on accommodation and sometimes "roughing it" in order to attend and enjoy the two music festivals. It has been a long time since I slept in a tent."
Nearly three years have passed by since then.

Will you be attending a festival or two on the island of Britain this summer?

    2. A New Day Festival is a great festival and it's two stages make quick change overs and keeps the 5000 audience happy. A lot of them are over fifty and they are a very amiable and music knowledge audience.

Yes we have another roughing it trip planned for late summer. I am trying to save up for it.

    4. Thanks for your very kind offer YP but there's no need. I will have to do a few car boot sales and sell some of my plants and treasure.

  6. Yes Linda. I have seen some great bands. I would still like to see Saga and Styx. Tull were once massive and even had their own ship to carry all their gear. Great band.

One thing I don't like about summer time is having to leave the windows slightly open to let a bit of fresh air in. Someone left our be...
