Sliced π° π°, sliced π₯ π₯ and a tin of corned beef. Covered with a dash of HP sauce.
That was my tea today. I dug far too many potatoes again and we made too much food for the two of us again.
I think we would be good catering for an army.
The potatoes were washed and sliced along with one of my whopper Japanese onions and placed in the air fryer.
The onions turned nice and crispy.
We sliced up a tin of Lidl corned beef π to go with the potatoes and onion.
It was very plain but tasty and filling. The kind of grub my mum would give us when we were kids.
The tin of corned beef was 3 Euros 49 and we get two meals out of it. Was a very cheap tea. Food is cheap when you supplement the meat with your own homegrown vegetables.
Good grub for a healthy appetite after working on your veg patch.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely labourers food JayCee. It's plain and fills you up. Even the dogs got some of the potatoes. They love homegrown potatoes.
ReplyDeleteSimilar meal my mum would make midweek, sometimes she would make a batter for the cornbeef, I do like a cornbeef hash using same ingredients.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was growing up in England I would often have corned beef hash for my tea Marlene. Plain and simple and it filled you up.
ReplyDeleteCorned beef is more expensive here. We eat it in the summer, cooked with eggs and served with chips. A good meal. And easy
ReplyDeleteSalted or corned beef was very much a working class/ farm labourers food Linda. Long before we had refrigerators our ancestors bought salted beef from Cork in Ireland and Fray Bentos in Uruquay. It was the staple diet for the British and Irish soldiers in WW1. Great for a snack or picnic. Interestingly if you have a full Irish breakfast here in West Cork. You can ask for a side dish of chips. It's a good accompaniment . We love corned beef.
ReplyDeleteOr when you hunt your own meat, bring it home, process it yourself and stick it in the freezer. Between our garden, Tim's hunting and 3 hens, I am hopeful that our food bill will be very tiny.
ReplyDeleteYour definitely going for quality and freshness there Debby with no additives. We don't hunt but we do eat our own vegetables and livestock.
