I was watching Top Of The Pops from 1977 on the television the other night.
The following song came on our television 📺 screen. Some how it seems to have passed me by:
The lyrics are great and I found it really unusual but catchy.
"So Long" by ABBA was a song I once featured on here that had also passed me by.
Is there any famous songs you some how missed when you were growing up?
I remember that song. I used to sing along whenever it was played on my old trannie.
ReplyDeleteGood old days...
Those were the days. I sound like Mary Hopkins.😀
DeleteFunny that, I imagined you with a deep voice like Ciarán Hinds.
DeleteI sound more like Andy Kershaw.
DeleteHave you got a sister called Liz?
DeleteNo!
DeleteI loved it at the time....
ReplyDeleteI can't remember it Marlene. It's so outside of the box and original. She's wrote a lot of very famous hits. Good old Top Of The Pops.
ReplyDeleteWe often watch old Top of the Pops here.
DeleteIt's great isn't it? I often watch Rock Goes To College and The Old Grey Whistle Test on good old YouTube Marlene. I love the seventies, eighties and nineties music.
ReplyDeleteVery original lyrics and feminist too - women asserting themselves. Carole Bayer Sager was married to Burt Bacharach for ten years - no wonder she learnt the craft of songwriting so well. She is now 84 and lives in Los Angeles with a yapping little dog called Dave who barks at visitors and frequently wees on the floor. (I made the last bit up!)
ReplyDeleteWhat a song writer YP. She's very talented and that song certainly raised the bar. It's so clever.
ReplyDeleteNot remembering that song just proves how young you are! Very well know to someone of 70 who's spent her whole life listening to Radio 2!
ReplyDeleteI'm 61 Sue. I wish we could listen to Radio 2. I listen to Classic Hits on Irish radio. There are a long of the same songs and commercial breaks. Next best is a rock CD in the car.
ReplyDeleteRemember it well and love it to bits. One of my all time favorites. Yes very clever lyrics.
ReplyDeleteVery clever lyrics TM. You had such an eclectic range of pop (popular) songs in the charts back then.
DeleteThat is my complaint about classic radio too. The same songs over and over. How often do I want to hear Rock the Casbah or Girls Just Want to Have Fun. I have missed a lot of music, I suppose because I mostly listen to Pandora, either a podcast or Mumford and Sons Radio these days.
ReplyDeleteI listen to Spotify mainly Debby. Especially when gardening. Joan Jett and Rush and April Wine and early Marillion and Thin Lizzy and Steve Hackett are my favourite choices at the moment.
ReplyDeleteI sometimes catch music from the 90's on that show, and often wonder how I missed some of the songs :)
ReplyDeleteYou sound like me Jules. The songs I knew always resonate with me and I remember how old I was and what was going on in my life at the time. It's strange how songs pass you by. I only discovered "So Long " by ABBA recently.
