A Long And Winding Road. One Of My Walks!

One thing I really love about living in rural Ireland is walking the hills.  Where else can you walk for miles and not see a soul?  The other day I did my six mile walk on the Sheep's Head Peninsula.  It's so incredibly beautiful and peaceful.  I have started putting my earphones on my mobile phone and listening to classical music on the radio while I walk.  It's like being in the opening or closing of a film.

Walking always clears my mind and makes me so grateful for nature and where I live.  Here are some photographs I took with my mobile phone:

A deserted road on the Sheep's Head Peninsula.

The mental juke box in my head started playing the following:

The grass is autumn brown now on the hillsides.
Found this stone circle on my travels.  What could it be?  A witches meeting place?  Perhaps ancient chieftains met here?  Or did somebody just felt artistic and made a circle of stones?  I think it's rather beautiful.
Looking down over Bantry Bay out of the mist.  You can see the outline of the Beara Peninsula across the bay.

I have a manuscript about the Sheep's Head Peninsula that needs finishing this winter.  So that's two books to finish this winter.  Anybody else writing any books?  What are they about?

  2. Hi BG. I thought that myself. Didn't feel any way evil or nasty. Quite the opposite. Thanks!

  3. What a lovely walk. I also have a soundtrack to my life. I sing a lot to myself. I cant sing, I still do it. Walking in such beauty must be good for the soul

    1. Hi Sol. It's not a lovely walk when it's blowing a gale. October seems to be one of the best months of the year weather wise. Don't see many tourists/walkers at this time of year though. A soundtrack to my life sounds wonderful. I have picked a tune for my funeral service. It's a Thin Lizzy one of course!

What do you think of the stone circle Sol?

    2. I thought witches circles were a 5 tree circle, with a clearing in the centre, maybe i am wrong

    3. Didn't know that Sol. I have read that there are white witches who follow the Wiccan beliefs of nature loving and they aren't evil. All interesting stuff around Halloween. I think I read somewhere that a very famous rock singer is a white witch. Thanks!

  4. Beautiful empty landscape. I love it. The circle looks just like one up at our temple to Poseidon. Ours became an ancient picnic nook!
Keep writing. I must make a start on mine. My problem is I have written so much over the years, going back to the 70s when I first arrived.
Looking at your posts and photos you too have an awful lot of inspiration around you.
People keep on telling me, write, a few pages a day, just write...or the other one, put on your she's and get out the door..walk. I've given up on that lately. you give inspiration. Once again spouting too much!!

    1. I think your blog could be a book L A.

I wrote a family memoir once of my dad's family here in Ireland. I will never get it published. But I printed it out and hopefully we will have grandchildren to read about their ancestors anecdotes and reminiscences..

A page a day is all you need to write a book. Go for it! Thanks!

  6. I have written and self published three books, which are to do with my 'other' work. (I am a psychic lady). I published with 'Lulu', an online printing company. Did not cost me anything to do, and was a grand learning experience in how to write, edit, and publish my own work.
But I took the books out of the public arena a year or so ago because I felt that the books had become out of date and that they needed updating. This I have not done yet.
For the moment writing a blog keeps me 'exercised' in regards to my writing, ...maybe I shall write more books, maybe not, but most of all I have learnt that you need to write for yourself and not mind too much if nobody else wants to read it. I have a friend who writes only to be published. He will never be, because his writing is not good enough. But if he were to write for himself, then I know that he would write a lot better, and then, perhaps, he might get published. To write a book with the intention of being published, well....most times it will not be. Write from your heart because you just like the feeling of how the words come out, and then people will want to read what you have written. I have learnt this with the blogs. Sometimes I just trot out a blog because I think I have to keep a blogging presence. These blogs are hardly ever responded to. When I write because I have the pressure of words in my head, then people seem to want to make comments.
Enjoy your writing. The words will then flow. Vx

    1. Thanks Vera. I agree with a writer should write for themselves. I write humour mainly apart from the blog which I enjoy writing. I think there are over 330 million blog writer's. That's 330 million writer's always with something to show or say through the medium of the Internet.

What is a psychic lady Vera? I am genuinely curious. I believe in pyschometry, can dowse for water and I have seen a ghost. No that's not correct. I have seen two ghosts around the farm. Thanks!

    2. Being psychic is difficult to describe in a simple way, but putting it simply..it is being sensitive to, and understanding, the energies of the Universe. I used to have a web site which went into detail about what I do but that got hacked into and had to be taken down off the internet a few months ago.
But I am not 'all knowing' and 'all seeing'! Unfortunately for most of the time my mind is so busy with day to day things that it shuts out this sensitivity, but when I am 'attuned' then I can channel words of advice which are astoundingly wise and which do not come from me, and I can channel the energy of healing, both remote and hands on.
Everyone has this sensitivity, but most shut it away. At the simplest level it can be called 'intuition'.
I did start a blog up called 'Diary of a Psychic Lady' and the link is http://vera-psychicdiary.blogspot.fr/

Unfortunately the links on the blog do not work because those links were connected to the website which no longer exists. Do please ask more questions if you want to. Vx

  7. Fascinating Vera. I read a book about dowsing. Dowsers can map read from thousands of miles away to find underground springs, gold and even American civil war battlefields and pioneers cemeteries. I believe the Aborigines can go 'walk about' and use their telepathic abilities to know where they are. Have you healed any of your animals on your smallholding Vera? Please tell us more.

    1. Hi Dawn. It's mountain, moorland, bog and sea in the distance here on the Sheep's Head Peninsula. Fantastic weather at the moment for walking or working on the smallholding or veg plot. Thanks!

  9. I would love to go on a walk like this Dave. It is far from the walks here in Norfolk and interesting in another way. We had our first frost this morning.
Man City did well in the second half; they had hardly any possession first half and a brilliant piece of counter-attack from Messi. What a brilliant goal from De Bruyne. And Arsenal came back after an early scare.

  10. Hi Rachel. Yes it's not flat like Norfolk is. If you want peace and isolation come for an holiday in Ireland. Like Seamus Heaney said in The Peninsula: water and rock in it's extremity. It really is beautiful and you can get a cheap flight for about twenty quid/Euros.

City did excellent. The Arsenal look like they are going to be up there for the Champions League and the Premiership. Our friend Ronaldo is in Warsaw tonight. I bet he notices the change in the temperature. I have gone passed Legia Warsaw on a tram. Will catch up with your blog Rachel.

  11. When Dylan Thomas was a young man he used to walk from Swansea to the Worm's Head and back. Now, Dave, the Worm's Head isn't a pub, it is a small island at the end of the Gower peninsula. If you ever get chance to nip across on the ferry go to Arthur's Stone in the centre of the Gower. It is a strange places and there are often sightings of strange lights and ufo's. A lovely walking area, fantastic beaches, views, the lot.
