On The Eighth Day The Polytunnel Was Made.

I seem to be spending a lot of my time in my poly-tunnel office at the moment.  I am always sieving my homemade compost, making planting cuttings and dividing my perennials.  The wife says I have got plantitis.  Is there such a word?  She says its somebody who is obsessed with plant pots.

Second hand plant pots

I live on a beautiful peninsula in West Cork. My grandmother use to say :"the view won't feed you".  It won't talk to you either.  I miss my allotments in England full of people and always somebody to talk to and have a laugh and a joke.  I think I would go mad if it wasn't for my poly-tunnel and reading and writing blogs.

Yesterday (Sunday) was a washout and I spent all morning potting on, popping out in the rain to make cuttings and lifting perennials to make more plants.  I dread to think how many plants and plant pots we have.  At least half of the veg plot is covered in tarpaulin and paving stones with plants on top of it.

I have stopped walking on the main road because the hedgerows are all overgrown and motorists come speeding from nowhere.  I could always go walking over the hills by myself but I get bored of my own company.  Perhaps I should get an hobby like poly-tunnel plant propagating?

Me in my Sunday best carrying some Sedums to be repotted into bigger pots in ye old poly-tunnel.   They are this years cuttings!

Some of my many many potted plants taking over half the vegetable plot.

  1. Yesterday in fact the whole weekend was a washout here. Yesterday we had 60 liters of rain per square meter (whatever that is I've no idea but it sounds a lot). Our highlight was watching the Humphrey Bogart film 'The African Queen' on the old goggle box. It's one I hadn't seen for years and I enjoyed revisiting it. They don't make 'em like that anymore.

  4. Perhaps you could listen to a radio while you worked. I talk to the radio as well as sing along with it. When there's nobody to hear it doesn't matter.

    1. I have tried to listen to radio Valerie but I don't like listening to most pop music today. Saying that we watch the X Factor every week. Think I need to get a CD player and listen to some Rock music. Thanks!

  7. Well, there are worse things, than being obsessed with plant pots. :-)

Wondering how come you moved, when you miss the company? If that's any of my business, to ask, of course...

Does your wife miss interaction too?

Yes, I am nosy!!!!! -grin- But if you like blogging, perhaps some questions to answer, would be "just the thing".

    Or not........

  8. Thanks Wisp Of Words. We came from towns and were use to mixing with people. The countryside is beautiful and peaceful but its too quiet sometimes. I like public transport, rock concerts, flea markets, real ale pubs, allotments, football matches, even talking to people. Good questions.

  9. Plantitus Rexus !
Yes, know it well have met several people suffering from that condition. Most of who are still alive though they do tend to shuffle and mumble to themselves a lot.
Do you recognise any of the symptoms - No perhaps not or yes as the case may
be, we at least you are still a youngish man.

  10. Yes that sounds like the creature, Heron. Permanent midlife crisis or just rural boredom. I can understand why people have weekend holiday homes and a couple of days in the countryside suffices. Thanks.
