Things are getting busy on the old growing front. The kitchen windowsill is now a temporary home for some Peppers and a tray of Capsicums. Courtersy of Lidl who give you a free Veg pot seed box for every twenty Euros you spend. The Goodness Garden Gang is encouraging everybody to get growing. I don't get paid from Lidl for keep mentioning them. I just like them.
We had some amazing crops from them last year. Especially tomatoes and cucumbers. I just fed them with my garden nettle and cow poo tea. Who needs commercial products full of chemicals?
It just goes to show you can start your veg and seeds off anywhere. When we lived in a flat twenty years or more ago. I grew potatoes in a plant pot in the front bedroom window. I have heard of people growing Cannabis and wild bird seed ("Bush") in pots in their windows. They got 'stomed' and we had some nice spuds for tea!
I decided to weed the flowerpots on Sunday Morning. Must get rid of those plastic ones or use them on the plot. Domino decided to help weed. Or was he getting high on the Cat-mint or Nepeta again? "It's all too much man!"
Utility room full of seed trays here too, Dave. It’s got an ugly polycarbonate roof so definitely not posh, but it lets in top light which is perfect for seedlings.

ReplyDeleteThis reminded me of an uncle who grew stuff indoors. The trouble there was that he tried to take over the kitchen, to the disgust of my aunt. He eventually acquired an allotment.
ReplyDeleteTalking of flowers (!) I recently received a Mothers Day arrangement through Interflora which seemed half dead when I got it, or pretty soon afterwards. My grouse is that the flowers were wilting so I disassembled the arrangement and put the white roses in a container that would take water. Horrified, those beautiful flowers had been cut off their original stems, leaving ONE INCH of stem on each bloom. No wonder the flowers were giving up before I got them.

It would be difficult to complain. The flowers were ordered in Australia. I might get my stepdaughter to do it from her end of the world. It's the first time the flowers weren't 100 percent perfect.

ReplyDeleteThis year I will set out some strawberries and radishes. Odd selection, but have just 2 spots for full sun plants that can be protected easily. Last year we had two weeks+ of high temp, and we had to put sun screens over many of them. So the 2 spots are where they won't be fried.

I am glad they brought back memories Susan. The polytunnel gets very hot at times. Forty degrees even. Last year was a fantastic hot summer. Apparently the best for eighty years. Although I still had part of my tent wrecked and ended up saturated in June at Doolin Folk Festival in County Clare. It did go nice again in fairness. I digress. We had to place our rooted potted cuttings under a hedge because it got so hot. California sounds amazing. But we do need rain. We get too much in Ireland. Thanks.
