Art Discovery On A Killarney Christmas Shopping Trip.

Yay an Nay. And (never start a sentence with And) it did come to pass that we did venture over the Cork and Kerry mountains to go shopping  of the Christmas kind in Killarney.  We went in The Works In Killarney Outlet Centre and I bought a book (for myself) and we bought a lot of other stuff for presents.  Then we walked along Old Market Lane and spotted this Muriel (Hilda Ogden's phrase) and we think it is superb, don't you?  Wish I knew who painted the images.  Anybody know?

Any body tell me what the Gaelic writing above the two women says?  Thanks.

Anybody out there paint or write?  Tell us about your work.  I wrote another one of my tales last week.  The collection is growing.  Keep up the good work!

An employer once asked me if my teacher wrote on my school reports:

David is a like-able pupil but is very easy distracted.  Must do better."

I was amazed and said:  "Yes.  How did you know that?"

He smiled and said:

"They wrote that on every-bodies school report."

See you tomorrow.

  1. Education was lost on me. And another thing - I sometimes say actually actually.

  2. Hi Gwil. I am only an autodidact myself. I pronounce advertisement: "advertizement". Why couldn't Education been: creative writing, allotments, local history, football, painting and Rock music studies?

What do you think of the murals Gwil?

    1. I like the 'Muriels' but I've no idea what the Gaelic says. I painted an ET out of my subconscious today. It must be because we went to the flicks the other evening to see Villeneuve's new sci-fi film "Arrival". It's one of those films where everybody comes out of the cinema discussing animatedly what it all means.

    2. Ah, adver-tizer-meant! Tizer the appetizer. I've swallowed gallons of that old fizz over the years.

    3. I was always a Strike Cola and Dandelion and Burdoch drinker myself Gwil. I was never keen on Iron -Bru. Think they made it from Iron girders. That's what they said any way.

    4. No I tried to interpret on Google. Think all I got was: Quite a Woman. Somebody must know? Great to read you are painting Gwil.

  3. I love the muriels. A work of genius! I don't paint, but as a newspaper editor and columnist I've done a fair bit of writing in my time. I now occupy myself with crazy quilting, embroidery, and all manner of ladylike hobbies (stop laughing you at the back) And (lol) did you notice that since I mentioned my intention of investing a few million into Norwich City, they won 5-0 yesterday? They say money can't buy happiness, but it made me quite happy (I'm sure copious amounts of wine helped too. I usually use it as an anaesthetic while listening to a game. But now toasting success...Life just doesn't get better)

  4. Hi Lesley. The paintings are great aren't they? Would love to be a humourist for a newspaper or magazine. There is nothing wrong with having creative gifts. The missus knitted me a bobble hat the other day. I was well pleased with it. Have Norwich City asked you when you are investing in them yet? Great result yesterday. United have just scored at Everton. I am very happy at the moment. Thanks!

  5. The translation is:
'A woman told me that a woman told her'...
Meaning: Don't believe everything you are told. It may be just gossip.

  6. Well, City seem to be doing OK without my money at the moment, so perhaps I'll put it to a different cause. I knitted my husband a bobble hat, but he used it as a tea cosy. My son loved a Balaclava helmet I did for him, but was in stitches (pun intended) over the gloves I attempted. I think it might have been because each one had 2 thumbs. I just told him to stop complaining and mutate!

    1. Another disappointind day at the office for United. A time of transition and rebuilding. I still think the Special One will achieve success. But it might only be cups this season. Wouldn't like to be in charge of a club in the Championship Lesley. I always look for the Villa and Forest results. So many sleeping giants capable of beating the top or the bottom. Leeds look very good at the moment.

Knitting takes a lot of patience doesn't it? Don't think I cold ever do it. Thanks!
