The Rain That Gets You Wet And Measuring My Feet.

Sorry I have not been in a blogging mood lately.  I have got back into my walking routine again though.  Yesterday I walked nine miles along the north side (the name of my blog) of our peninsula in my rainy day suit.  I only spoke to one person on my saunter.  A middle age lady was busy shoveling leaves out of a road drain.  We both said:

"Hello".

That was my only human communication apart from waves from passing cars.  The people in rural Ireland often wave to passing motorists and "fools in the rain", yours truly.

It was a typical mizzle day in West Cork.  It was that rain "that gets you wet" kind of day.  But my new waterproofs (I bought them last summer) have given me a new lease of life.  I got home and my wife had made me some home made bread and some soup.

A few hours later I asked her to measure my feet (like you do) for me.  I was informed that I am size eleven.  This was quite a shock for me.  I have been wearing size ten boots/shoes for nearly forty years.  I know feet swell when you walk and I was blaming Metric sizes being too small and why can you not get ten and half boots anymore..?  Must get some new walking boots.

  1. Good on you for walking nine miles on that mizzle day. What a wonderful word. Don't know exactly the translation but can imagine what it means. Waking is good for body and soul. Keep it up and tell us all about it , even if it is a mizzle day and youre the only one brave enough to walk

    1. Thanks LA. Mist and drizzle = mizzle. It's always quiet here on our peninsula. I some times feel like I am here on my with the landscape. Walking makes me a part of it.

    1. Thanks Rachel. You sounded a bit cheesed off when you came back from Vienna. I think its the time of the year. Walking clears your head and you always see something different. I saw sheep, horses, cattle and daffodils about to flower. Will catch up with your blog. Thanks.

  3. Wish I had known about the size of your feet I could have sent you some wool socks size 11 a few weeks back, I bought them in error my feet are a lot smaller. I sent them to a size 10 cousin in the UK.

    1. Thanks Heron. I have read that most people have one foot bigger than the other. I wish you could still get half sizes. I also prefer working distance out in miles rather than kilometres when I am walking.

  4. I like walking. Good think as we now have the dogs. It clears my head and I feel more relaxed after.

Do your feet get bigger as you age? Maybe your arch has collapsed slightly?

  5. Hi Sol. I love walking. You see so much more than you do in a car. It's even better if you have some one to have a conversation with when you are walking.

Feet do get bigger and so do your nose and ears when you get older. Your bones and tendons lose their elasticity and they can even grown an extra shoe size. I found this out when I Googled it. Thanks.

  6. I used to love walking in the rain, but that was when I had a dog to walk with! We have dogs, but our rottweiller girls stay on the farm, where they have plenty of space to exercise in, but I do miss a dog who trots along at my side.

  7. Hi Vera. My waterproofs allow me to walk even when it's raining like it is at the moment here in Ireland. I often plug one of my earphones into my phone and listen to the radio. I don't listen to the news though. It's not really safe to walk a dog on the roads because there re few veges or pavements. Thanks!

    1. Hi BG. Some isolation is OK but I don't like it every day. I sometimes feel like I am the only person in the world when I am walking. Thanks!

  9. My chiropodist explained why feet seem bigger as we get older, they go flatter, so are indeed longer!
