Cheap Pub Grub And A Pint For Six Pounds Fifty.

Before I went to Doolin I spent seven days visiting Thomas Hardy country.  I will show you some of the Wessex locations in future posts.

One place that really impressed me was Wetherspoons.  My old friend and myself visited the Wetherspoons in Hardy country.  They didn't mind us plugging our phone chargers in to their plug sockets and I ordered a pint of Sharps bitter and a burger and chips for Six Pounds Fifty.

I always thought Southwest England was expensive but Wetherspoons proved me wrong.  I have noticed quite a fw rural pubs and shops close their doors for good here in Ireland.  Its good to see a thriving pub chain offering cheap food and drink in England.  Hopefully the lads and lasses will be able to celebrate England winning the world cup with a cheap meal and an inexpensive pint.

  1. I like the Wetherspoons chain and the founder Tim Martin. I admire him for supporting Brexit.

  2. I like Tim Martin and Wetherspoons, but I don't support Brexit. There's even Wetherspoons pubs now in Ireland. Iceland stores are popping up also. Thanks Rachel. You always leave a comment on my posts and I always grateful for them.

  3. I went to a Wetherspoons in Exeter a few years ago. Apparently it was a replica of Buckingham Palace when it was built but the owner lost money gambling and so it was reduced in size, if I remember rightly. I think I had a pint of Green King with my meal.

    1. I forgot to tell you Dave that they had bottled Delirium Tremens the beer festival. I didn't buy any. In fact I was on the wagon that day as I'd been fed and watered in a Serbian bar watching a World Cup match and had a little headache the day I went to the beer festival.

    3. Beer festivals are great. I use to go to them in England. Real ale doesnt seem to be popular in Ireland, sadly. Thanks.

  4. It is a long time since I visited Wetherspoons. I didn't know pub doors were closing, but shops certainly are. I was glued to the TV yesterday, didn't they do well?! You might have heard me cheering them on, although my voice was sort of drowned by other folk!

  5. Hi Valerie. There are lots of rural pubs and shop closures here in Ireland. I can buy eight cans of Guinness for twelve Euros. It would cost me forty Euros for draught Guinness in a pub. Great win for England yesterday. Thanks!

  6. Glad you enjoyed yourself. I stay away from crowded venues because I don't like being among lots of people, but I would think that a music festival would have a really good vibe, especially if those vibes were helped along with a drop of the good stuff!

  7. Thanks Vera. I felt claustrophobic watching Lankum. But by the end of the three day festival the multitudes didn't concern me. Hope your both well! Thanks.

  8. My younger daughter worked in Wetherspoons, and the staff treated her very well, which I think says a great deal about a company too.
