We bought 20 onion bhajis mixes a few months ago from Aldi if you recall me mentioning them on here?
You peel and slice your onions and mix them in the bhajis mix/ batter and drop them in heated hot oil and finish them off in the oven:
They looked right and we had yogurt and mint and chutney with them.
They weren't very spicy but they looked the part.
You don't seem to be able to get fresh spices down here. Just the powdered bottled/ jar type with little umph.
Another meal made with our homegrown winter onions.
Never thought to make our own, we have a good shop for spices in the village, you can always get what you need there, they do not sell the top brands seen in a supermarket, everything in bags at a good price. Not pulled my onions yet.
ReplyDeleteWe could do with some Asian shops moving down here so we can buy fresh spices Marlene. Some of my leeks and o ions are bolting and going to seed with the hot and dry weather. I think the pigs will be getting a good feed and I will let some leeks self seed.
ReplyDeleteI love onion bhajis and I always get some when I order a curry takeaway from "Bilash" on Sharrow Vale Road. Funny that the name "Bilash" also appears on the mix that you bought. Google said this...
ReplyDelete"The name 'Bilash' originated from India in the late 1800's. The meaning behind the name 'Bilash' is seriousness."
Well, it's a serious business tucking into a nice curry meal.
Thanks for the heads up YP. We like to take on the takeaway sometimes and make our own.
ReplyDeleteI don't know anything about bhajis. They sound very nice. Anything Indian is very exotic here
ReplyDeleteI am surprised at that Linda. I have been familiar with Asian food since my teenage years. Then in my twenties I starting trying Mexican food. I love hot and spicy food very much.
ReplyDeleteWho doesn't love an onion bhaji! They look delicious.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jules. Just the ticket for a snack on a hot day.
