"I Looked Out This Morning And The Sun Was Gone"....

I don't know why the clocks have changed.  I looked out this morning and it was pitch black outside.  The days are getting shorter and then it will be the shortest (December 21st) day.  Then the days start stretching and we look forward to the spring and summer.

Time for another of my classic rock tracks.  Today it's Boston: "More Than a Feeling."  It reached number 22 in the UK pop charts.  There must have been some good music around to knock this track off the top spot.

I remember going to parties around 1980 when I was about 17 or 18.  This track was always played.  People still wore cheese cloths, drank lager and blackcurrant, Watney's Party Seven, smelled of  Brut or Patchouli oil and there was always a cheese cake to eat - happy days!  Well at least it was better music than today, wasn't it?

You can imagine it in say twenty years time and I go to the Old Age Pensioner's club and they start playing and putting some music on and I'll be shouting:

"Put 'Paranoid' on by Black Sabbath".

Do you remember this?

  1. Watney's party seven....bloody hell I'd forgotten all about that stuff! Reminds me too of the first cassette tape I bought for my Vauxhall Viva....American Heartbeat, thought I was the dogs bollocks with it blaring out of unwound windows. Thing is I still smell of Brut!

  2. Hi John. I remember when every body would tape the top 40 off the radio and you spent many an hour winding your tape with a pencil, until your cassette machine decided to eat 'American Heartbeat' 'The best of Abba' or 'Saturday Night Fever'. I remember getting a 14 inch BLACK & WHITE portable television for Christmas and thinking pretty proud of myself., playing my vinyl records on my Fidelity stereo at number TEN and my mum shouting up the stairs:

"Turn it down. It's like a bloody fairground in here."

Can you still purchase Brut? These days I smell of Silage, hay and Friesian odour toilette. Thanks!

  4. I have visited Drombeg stone circle here in West Cork. Drombeg is magical. Yes once the Winter Solstice is over, the days start stretching.

Do they still make 'Old Spice'? Carbolic soap and Izal toilet paper - luxury! This is starting to sound like the Monty Python - Yorkshire men sketch. Thanks for making me laugh Heron!

  5. You are very welcome Farmer !

Notice I didn't call you a 'smallholder', which I think would be to suggest that you are diminutive in some way - wink!

you might need to think about that hahaha!

  6. Hi Heron. I think the definition of a smallholder is somebody who farms less than 20 acres. So I am definitely a smallholder.

    1. You are being far too serious, Dave it wasn't your land size I was obliquely referring to :)

    1. What folk music is it Sol? Let me guess: 'Country Roads'... John Denver. I like quite a bit of folk music. The 'American driving road trip tape' sounds just up my street.

I know you can still buy them. But why would anybody want some of the products? I might buy myself some Brut for Christmas, hmm...?

I hate the dark mornings and the dark nights. Anybody got any hibernation tips? Thanks Sol!

    1. Yes I had forgot about Brut 33, Deb. Was it Henry Cooper? "Splash it on all over". Can you still get Caramac chocolate? Haven't see that for donkey years! Thanks!

    2. That's the fella. I always get him mixed up with Mad Frankie Frazer. ;-)
(well, they both hit people for a living).
I haven't seen Caramac either - i used to love that.

    3. Well they both came from London's East End, Deb.

I am reliably informed you can still purchase Caramac. I want a bottle or ten of Barrs 'Strike' Cola. Do you remember that? I think they also made Iron Bru. Thanks!

  11. Good on you Irene. You are a proper hippy girl. Did you get tickets for Fleetwood Mac? I don't understand why they never booked football stadiums for the likes of them and Kate Bush. Thanks!

  12. No, sorry Dave, Fleetwood have never been our bag. I have become boring now and it would take a lot to get me to a big concert, don't like being with hoards of people any more, antisocial hag that I am. Although I could change my mind!!!

  13. I don't really enjoy big arena concerts Irene. I saw Roger Waters "The Wall" in Poland last year. The pyrotechnics and visual effects and the wall itself made it a spectacle. I do prefer small venues with a bar or two and no seats and you can get to the front or just stand at the bar and watch the band. Not that I get to see many bands these days. This year I have seen 4 bands. Which is good for me these days. Thanks!
