Outside Of A West Cork Wedding Reception.

We took this photograph outside the West Lodge Hotel in Bantry on Saturday.

It seems to be the latest craze to dress up tyres or big round bales straw for the bride and groom.  You can't tell we live in a farming area can you?  What's the latest wedding craze near you?

  1. In the church yard a few months ago we had a bride and groom made from big hay bales :-)

  3. Hi Local Alien. Yes they amuse passers by and they show weeding guests where the weeding reception is. They are also quite tall. Thanks!

  4. I have not seen any wedding tyres here but frequently pigs made from round bales are used to promote Young Farmers events and appear in the fields by the roadsides. Weddings are a bit thin on the ground these days as most of the young people I know just choose to set up home together without getting married. And good for them!

    1. Thanks Rachel for telling us about what they do in Norfolk. Weddings seem to be thin on the ground here too. A lot of couples seem to set up home first before they get married or don't bother. I know hotels are losing trade because of this. Thanks!

    1. Solstice greetings BG. It's the shortest day of the year today. The days should start stretching now. Roll on the summer.

  6. I don't get to many weddings. It's mostly funerals I go to. But I do remember I once went to a wedding in Morecambe which had a sweepstake in the bar at the reception afterwards. It was a sweep on the Grand National and I drew a horse called Foinavon. Unbelievably it won the race at odds of 100/1.

  7. Hi Gwil. Foinavon's jockey died this week. I have only been to one wedding here in Ireland. The highlight was two lady Irish dancers' coming through the door at eleven at night and dancing with their feet over their heads. River Dance had noting on it! Thanks!
