These beautiful piglets were born about 2 in the morning on Friday.
Barley was bought in pig a couple of weeks ago.
We put her in a room of her own (stable) and she farrowed away on her own no problem. They are lying on a straw bed and they have an electric heat lamp hung over them to keep warm. Can I send the electricity bill to Barley the Sow?
It's great to see new life being born on the smallholding.
Any one else had any recent new livestock arrivals?
There is something about piglets (epecially spotted ones) that makes me smile. Lesley
ReplyDeleteI will pray that the little piglets are safe.
ReplyDeleteYes they make you smile Lesley. Amazing characters and walking about with their eyes wide open already.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rachel. They are in a shed on a bed of straw and lying underneath an heat lamp. Soon they will be outside with the others in the field rummaging with a pig ark for shelter.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful. Bet they're cute, squealing little piglets
ReplyDeleteFive girls and two boys Linda. Barley the Sow seems happy and she's eating our surplus eggs glut.
ReplyDeleteSeven! I only saw six.
DeleteThere's definitely seven River!
DeleteGreat result, Dave. Only 2 boys out of 5 is helpful too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Philip. They are beautiful and we are very happy with them all.
ReplyDeleteAaawwwww. F has very soft spot for baby piggies. She had a dog once that used to sit on top of a muck pile for hours watching pigs and she can lean on a fence for just as long watching their ears flap when they run.
ReplyDeleteAmazing creatures Tigger. Eyes wide open and walking around in less than 24 hours. I suggested Clover for your allotment fox name. I am sure lots of people can think of a name for your fox Tigger.
ReplyDeleteWhy can't human women birth like that? Why does it have to be so complicated and scientific? Just give 'em a bed of straw and a heat lamp and tell em to get on with it. How many piglets are there? Please name the most handsome one Yorkshire Pudding. You have my full permission.
ReplyDeleteBiff would be a good name for one of the Boars YP. Named after Saxon Vocalist Biff Byford. One of my Rock heroes and from tother side of the Pennines.
ReplyDeleteHe was born and raised in Skelmanthorpe - the same as the first woman to play Dr Who - Jodie Whitaker. She is nicer to look at than Biff.
DeletePrincess Of The Night. What a classic Rock song about a locomotive or maybe Jodie?
ReplyDeleteShe was a princess of the night
DeleteI saw the writing on the wall
She was a princess of the night
I take a ride across the sky.
Wheeay! I am head bangin' in the mosh pit now mate!
Could there better song about a locomotive YP?
ReplyDeleteNope, no new critters here, but those little pig faces are adorable. Take lots of pictures for us!
ReplyDeleteThey are Debby and much more alert than new born puppies or 😸.
DeletePS: I think a piglet naming party is in order.
ReplyDeleteGood idea. Shall we name them after politicians or rock stars?
ReplyDeleteWell, I know of quite a few piggy politicians, so....
DeleteWe also bought their father and he's called Elvis.
DeleteSix cute little piggies :) Are they destined to become hams and bacon and sausage?
ReplyDeleteThey will probably be sold and for breeding and for meat. We have other pigs also.
