Do you not think a lot of gardening programmes are very serious and I end up being the commentator in the corner like the one on Gogglebox and Four in a bed or is it Come Dine With Me?

Last week I spent a life time waiting for my Prog Rocker hero Fish to appear in his Scottish garden. Some weeks I tune in with the hope that Frances ( the lass with the allotment) Tophill will appear and be the gardening eye candy for a while.
In my humble opinion.These programmes need humour, music and more visiting different gardens and allotments. Maybe a programme like the one I found on You Tube the other day?
I used to watch David Tarrant on Canadian TV. He was really good. There was one where a goose chased a person around the garden and another where a wil turkey went territorial and attacked everything and everyone. That was on Canadian TV but I cant remember the programme. I think it was a morning programme like "This Morning", they had an exercise and garden section. This was in the late 1990's. I was afraid of turkeys after watching that, it was in such a frenzy. This was Ontario.

The CT was only about 20 mins from us, but we moved over here not long after it was finished, so we didn't get to go on it, which is a shame. It was lovely and sunny here this morning, but it's overcast now. We're ok thanks Dave, I hope you're all safe and well down there.
DeleteThe book is very funny and poignant and philosophical and funny again Deb. The CT is an amazing engineering feat. Wish there was a tunnel from say Rosslare to Fishguard. I miss Wales and England. Dorset is wonderful and I like Herefordshire very much. I was very impressed with Kent when I visited last August. The old churches and villages are incredibly beautiful.

DeleteI tape as many of the programmes that I want to watch as I can fit together. I can then watch them when I want to, in whatever order/time I choose, but more importantly, I can fast-forward through the parts I don't want to watch. I did watch the Fish segment - lovely garden!
ReplyDeleteHi the veg artist. The adverts drive me mad. There must be twenty minutes of an hour wasted on adverts. Good idea to tape programmes. I thought Fish had a very manicured garden. I wonder if he employs someone? I would imagine he would to give someone job. Saying that he use to work in Forestry. It must be great having your recording studio next to your house and garden. I bet he gets the Scottish snow and our wind and rain that we get in Wales and Ireland? It's throwing it down here. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteGardening programmes are usually twee and middle class. The presenters and experts never acknowledge that many people do not even have gardens! Perhaps those people are unimportant!
ReplyDeleteGood points YP. I remember All Muck and Magic. This was a 1980s Channel 4 gardening programme presented by the likes of Sophie Grigson and Bob Flowerdew. Gardeners World does feature different gardens like last week when they visited Prog Rock legend Fish and his garden and they also visited an old steel mill in Germany that had been planted up instead of being demolished. Frances Tophill regularly features her allotment.
