The washing machine with the fourteen minute wash finally gave up the ghost last week. I said to buy a new one local so if anything goes wrong with it you can go back and discuss your problem with a human being.
Other members of the family thought different. They drove to Cork to a retailer that's name sounds like Asian spicy food. They chose a model that was reasonably priced and wasn't in stock. So they paid for it and returned back down to West Cork.
One week later, today. My wife rang a phone number on the receipt and she was put through to a none human automatic phone voice which said the washer will be delivered on the 16th of December.
Wifey is not an happy bunny. Fortunately we have a washing machine in another dwelling. Anyone else had an hissy fit recently?
They should have listened to you Dave. We needed a new washing machine when we moved in here last year. The one I wanted was for sale in that same large retailer over here but also in the local independently owned family business in Douglas at a small amount over the chain's price but with great after sales service. We went for the local retailer . Service and reliability was more important that price for us.

ReplyDeleteI forgot to say it could be Brexit to blame for the wait? It's getting harder and harder to source stuff from England and the UK. I can't even buy a bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale anymore over here.
ReplyDeleteF had a major hissy fit in the local council building on Monday - they can't deal with her council tax enquiry because council taxation management and handling has been 'contracted out'. 6 months and 4 enquiries after getting the house back we still haven't had an invoice but have apparently been served with 2 x 14 day non-payment notices (no we haven't seen those either - I wonder if they were posted to Greece!). yours (hiding under the bed) MR T
ReplyDeleteGosh. That must be so frustrating MR T? Us humans and the technology we use is making it a very complicated world. I found it very annoying when I went to England in England when places wouldn't take paper money and train stations had replaced ticket clerks with machines and turnstiles that you had to try a crumpled paper ticket instead of it being checked by a human being. No wonder the rail workers are striking.

ReplyDeleteI bought an excellent washing machine way back when I was still working, a front loader, good name brand with a guarantee of 25 years, for heavy duty daily use. It never got daily use and rarely heavy duty, it is now 25 years and three months old and still working like it was new. Even after several house moves. If I ever have to replace it I will pay happily for the same brand again.
