Another One Of My Veg Plot Inventions!

More Wessex Tales coming soon.

Light Bulb Moment!

Somebody gave number one son some wire shelves for the farmhouse the other week or so.

Number one son must have decided that he didn't need some of the wire shelves.  So he very kindly threw them out the back door on to the lawn which is rapidly turning brown at the moment.

I picked up the white shelves and thought about putting them on the scrap metal pile.  Then I thought:

"No I will make a drying frame for my onions."

Like you do!

Remember the garden frame I made out of the recycled bricks and the shower doors?  I was too tight to mortar the bricks together, thankfully!

So I lifts off the frame (shower door) and takes off the first course of bricks and lies the fridge shelves prostrate.  Then I place the bricks back on top of the shelves on one side.

Then I lifted my Japs (Winter onions) and  topped and tailed them with a knife (spelled with a K)  and replaced the top (shower door).  Result = Bob's your uncle!  One vegetable drying frame for the grand total of nowt or nuffink!

There are lots of songs about onions.  Here's one of them:

Tomorrow: German Onion Pizza!

  1. I imagine those wire shelves will be of use in future years. I think like you (or used to) ... why chuck something that can be useful in different ways. Congrats, Dave.

    1. They are called the Kleingartenverein (KGV). Verein means club or organization. You have to be careful you don't get locked in one of those places when somebody comes round and locks all the gates in the fence - as happened to somebody I know ;-)

    2. No names. No pack drill.

  3. The summerhouses looked good enough to live in all year round. The KGV sound like a Communist allotment committee.

  4. Darn, couldn't hear I love onions. I'll have to look it up on Youtube.
Hmm, well done Dave. However... it reminds me of a certain person here who uses junk to make grills and fences and heaven knows what and so we have a backyard full of rubbish...just in case something comes in handy. Hope Mrs Dave keeps it all under control!

  5. Hi Linda. One man's trash is another man's treasure. I use to know an allotment holder who used old lumps of concrete to hold the sheets down on his shed. Thanks!

  7. Usually just what you need is somewhere around and no need to go out and buy it and pay loads. Improvisation is all it takes. Good ideas there Dave.

  10. I am bold enough among many others to state that there is now a potent cure to this sickness but many are unaware of it. I discovered that I was infected with the virus 3 months ago, after a medical check-up. My doctor told me and I was shocked, confused and felt like my world has crumbled. I was dying slowly due to the announcement of my medical practitioner but he assured me that I could leave a normal life if I took my medications (as there was no medically known cure to Herpes). I went from churches to churches but soon found that my case needed urgent attention as I was growing lean due to fear of dying anytime soon. In a bid to look for a lasting solution to my predicament, I sought for solutions from the herbal world. I went online and searched for every powerful trado-medical practitioner that I could severe, cos I heard that the African Herbs had a cure to the Herpes syndrome. It was after a little time searching the web that I came across one Dr Itua(A powerful African Herbal Doctor), who offered to help me at a monetary fee. I had to comply as this was my final bus-stop to receiving a perfect healing. My last resolve was to take my life by myself, should this plan fail. At last it worked out well. He gave me some steps to follow and I meticulously carried out all his instructions. Last month, to be precise, I went back to the hospital to conduct another test and to my amazement, the results showed that negative,Dr Itua Can As Well Cure The Following Desease…Cancer,Hiv,Herpes,aLS,cOPD Hepatitis B,Liver Inflammatory,Diabetis,Fribroid, Dercum,Get Your Ex Back, You can free yourself of this Herpes virus by consulting this great African Herbal Doctor via this e-mail: drituaherbalcenter@gmail.com or call and whatsapp him on +2348149277967 He will help you and his herb medication is sure. he has the cure on all disease .You can talk to me on INSTAGRAM..tashamoore219....

Amazing what we can do with "left-overs", when we put our mind to it.

And the old saying; "One man's trash is another man's treasure!"
