A rose glass or for a single flower? Its old and heavy (sounds like me) and was only a Euro. |
This coffee cup and ashtray immediately caught my attention. I just had to have it! Anybody know anything about it? |
Oh I got some books too. One on Portugal and one about Lady Gardeners. All for a Euro a piece! Will post a blog about the book when I have read it. One lady gardener employed eighty gardeners. Doff cap, pull forelock:
"Yes my lady!"
Talking of lady gardeners. Watch Carol Klein tonight on Channel 5 at nine O'clock. She's one of my favourite television gardeners. Who or was your favourite television gardener? Geoffrey Smith was mine and Geoff Hamilton too. Monty is good too and I adore his gardening dogs Nelly and Nigel.
Some good finds there Dave. I like the Sundae glasses, reminds me of special days when mum would get them out, never used unless something special like Christmas, or visitors. I am afraid I don't like Carol Klein, in fact I can't stand her voice. I don't like Monty Don either. I used to like Diarmid whatever his name was with Alan Titchmarsh though. I like finding books on charity stalls and secondhand stalls and have found lots I like to read for 50p to a £1. Thanks Dave, I enjoyed the post.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like them Rachel. I thought you would like the coffee cup. There's a coffee house in Amsterdam called Tabac. Wonder if it came from there? Carol is the Carol Smillie of television gardening. Always cheerful and a walking garden encyclopedia not to forget she's from Lancashire like myself. Dairmud Gavin? The books called The Virago Book Of Women Gardeners. Its brilliant. Thanks Rachel.
ReplyDeleteYes, that's him. Dairmud and Alan Titchmarsh and one other man used to be really funny together on the Chelsea Flower Show. I have noticed how knowledgeable Carol is, but her voice grates on me.
DeleteI once saw Percy Thrower in a plant marquee at Southport Flower Show. He was a gardening guru. Carol opened a plant nursery in Devon. But her accent still prevails. There's a young lady on Gardeners World who is keen on allotments. Can't think of her name. Very nice and very knowledgeable. Charlie Dimmocks authographed photograph sits proudly on one of our walls. She sent it to our eldest when we wrote to her at the BBC and said he liked her in Groundforce. I'll post it on here some time for the readers perusal. Thanks Rachel.
ReplyDeleteI like the vase.
ReplyDeleteGeoff Hamilton and Geoffrey Smith I agree are top notch. I watch Geoffrey Smith on YouTube and I liked him on GQT. Christine Walkden is totally unpretentious and like her with her strong Lancashire accent.
Thanks Philip. Only one Euro.
ReplyDeleteParadise Gardens was Geoffs masterpiece. A work of art with nature.
Geoffrey Smith videos show you how to double dig. I always think of one of his quotes: "Put the brown end in the soil, the green end above it, and your in with a much better chance". Brilliant.
Yeah you know Christine. I remember you mentioning her on your blog. Thanks!
You have a nice collection of treasures there. If I were adding, not divesting, I'd fancy that first vase.
ReplyDeleteHi Joanne. The vase wpuld only hold one flower or two but its robust and attractive. I like the coffee cup because its so different Thanks.
DeleteI like coffee cup..attractive, fanciful
ReplyDeleteHi Tanza. I agree. The coffee cup is very attractive. Thanks for your comment.
ReplyDeleteI used to watch all the gardening programmes but haven't seen one in ages. I think I stopped watching when Monty took over but don't know why.
ReplyDeleteHi Valerie it was good to watch Carol's gardening programme last night and on a Tuesday instead of the usual Friday night slot. Well done Channel 5. I watch a lot of the ol gardening programmes on You Tube and I subscribe to quite a few gardening and allotment video channels also on good old You Tube. Especially ones about vegetables and perennials. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI like the sundae glasses. I'd use them for ice-cream!
ReplyDeleteNo gardening programmes here.
Not a lot of people garden for a hobby I suppose. You have a vegetable garden to feed the family and a few pots of basil.
Garden shows will be the next 'in' thing maybe. Better than darn reality shows
Hi LA. There aren't a lot of gardening programmes on British and Irish channels. Even Sky stopped showing classic gardening programmes like Geoff Hamiltons Paradise Gardens. Its about time there was an allotmen t channel. I read blogs and watch You Tube for them sort of programmes.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you like the Sundae glasses. Thanks!
Hey Dave, we have mugs with a plate like that from Denby. They are called a biscuit plate. like these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/183800164123
ReplyDeleteThanks Sol. I will check them out. Thanks.
