Kale Grown In The Polytunnel.

I thought I would publish a gardening post today.  We planted some Kale plants in the polytunnel a month or so a go.  Mainly because there was no room in the veg plot/ perennials nursery.  It's normally a winter plant but we're eating ours already.  It's amazing the difference a bit of plastic makes.  It creates its only micro-climate.  We are delighted with our growing results:

I am thinking of getting another polytunnel.  Polytunnels are great even when its raining and your growing season is extended.  Anybody thinking of getting one?

  1. What a nice looking row of kale, and I bet tasty as well. I have tried poly tunnels before, but somehow the bugs still seem to find their way in.

  2. Thank you Jean. I love my polytunnel. Even on wet days I can still garden and propagate new plants. Thanks for your comment.

  4. Yep. Just a little. Portugal is the name of my polytunnel Rachel. The next one will have a table and chairs and we will use it for having a drink of wine or beer and read and garden and it can rain but we won't mind. Thanks Rachel.

  5. I have the frame up but I'm get to get it covered! Gutted as it's been there for months.

  6. You will have to get a few of your friends around to cover and pull the plastic in place Kev. My dilemma is do I construct the new (second hand) polytunnel this autumn or wait until the gale seasons finished? I have to clear the area of plants and vegetables first. Thanks.

  8. They're great Valerie. Even on a rainy day you can still garden. They do get hot though. Thanks!

  9. Up, running and well maintained, I'm sure they're excellent. Someone had a few in our garden once - and we are left digging up plastic at every turn, presumably from where they were covered with soil at the edges? Not good!

  10. Hi the veg artist. Yes plastic is very useful for polytunnel covering and plastic water barrels ..? But it can be a nuisance too. Especially when you're digging it up in the garden and veg plot. Thanks.
