Living Next Door To The Atlantic Ocean.

We watched Atlantic: a year in the wild, on Saturday night on Channel 5.

The flora and fauna, water and landscape above and below the water was amazing.

Richard Branson should explore under the oceans instead of outer space where nothing exists.

I recently watched My Octopus Teacher on Netflix and wrote about it on here.  If you've not seen that documentary please watch it! It's so beautiful and so incredibly poignant.

Regular readers know I can see the bay from our kitchen window.  This bay is part of the Atlantic ocean.  So it was very interesting to watch the programme yesterday evening.

Apparently the Atlantic stretches from pole to pole.  It's deepest bit is 37000 feet and it's waves can reach fifty seven feet and they can weigh one thousand tons! "Yoikes Scooby".

It was a great programme and soon it will be gale season on the Irish Riviera.  It's such a mild climate but it does get very windy and gets more than it's fair share of rain.

Here's a video of the wild Atlantic way.  Ireland is such a spectacular and beautiful country.

  1. Whaddya mean nothing exists in outer space? Haven't you seen "Star Trek"? Thanks for sharing the Wild Atlantic Way video...reminders of Ireland's west facing beauty. Was that Kansas doing the soundtrack?

  2. Why is Star Trek true? There's nowt up there other than a cheese made out of Lancashire crumbly cheese, space debris and some satellites. It's time Kansas played in West Cork. I went to Poland to see them after all.

    4. I repeat myself when I'm stressed. That was a one finger typing stutter.

  6. They should pay me YP but they don't. I rarely get Irish comments either. Sometimes shopkeepers notice my northern English accent and ask me: "How long are you on holiday" and I reply:
    "Twenty years!"

  7. Absolutely stunning. I would love to walk along that Atlantic coast. I miss the sound and spectacle of that big surf rolling in, though I grew up beside the Pacific.

  8. Hi Linda. Imagine growing up besides the Pacific Ocean. Oceans are incredibly strong and you treat them with respect.

  9. I loved the my octopus teacher documentary too. Living on west coast of wales is rough, but I expect Ireland is even wilder. It's great though isn't it!

  10. Hi Mark. My Octopus teacher was beautiful and the ending had so much pathos. Everything hass got it's place. I think the west coast of wales is symmetrical to Ireland. I am in awe of where we live!

  11. I first visited Ireland in 1976 during a hot summer and thought I found the best kept secret. What a summer! Anyway, I eventually lived there for over a decade (give and take the years we worked in far away places) and had two great summers 1983 and maybe 1995 or did I forget one?
Lovely video there, of course West Cork is the best.

  12. Hi Sabine. 1976 was incredibly hot. I use to visit West Cork when I was young and went to see my dad's family. We moved here to live in 2001 and it's still a beautiful country. I love Kerry too. Glad you liked the video.
