Greenway sign going to Listowel in County Kerry.
Another wild Irish rose.
Old water tower cover in Ivy where once the steam locomotives would fill up with water.
Wild Irish 🌹 🥀 roses.
Diesel and Bronte going for "walkies"."Isn't this great?" "Do you think they will buy us an ice cream or some chicken nuggets at that Scottish sounding place: Maccy Donald's?" " I'm loving it!"
We went for a saunter again on the wonderful Greenway or repurposed railway line.
This time we took Bronte our faithful Golden Retriever and Diesel the Bernese dog that lives with us. Her temperament is amazing and she loves Yorkshire 🍮 and potatoes 🥔. I jest not.
We went for a gentle 3 miles saunter and met several cyclists 🚴♂️, runners 🏃♂️ and walkers and they asked about the 🐕 🐕 and said they were very well behaved and the usual: "Good morning ." greetings.
I get tired of living on the Sheep's Head Way where I can climb and walk the hills over the two bays and rarely or never see a soul.
Yes it's spectacularly beautiful on a nice day, but its nice to see somewhere new. I have been walking the same route for twenty four years after all!
We humans talk and hopefully communicate with other walkers. That's why I like the greenways so much. Plus you are walking on a flat and even tarmac surface.
How far away is it from your house? Perhaps you could retire, sell your smallholding and move to a house beside the Greenway?
ReplyDeleteTwo hours away by car JayCee. There are plans for more greenways all over Ireland even down here soon. There is a lot to be said for a flat and even tarmac surface and no cars or lorries. I no longer walk on our rural roads they are far too dangerous to walk on. It must have been great to walk the roads when there weren't any cars.
ReplyDeleteI really don't walk enough, unless you look at my steps in the garden, we gave away lovely shore line just 10 minutes from our home, and also close by a perfect castle, Portchester castle which is a wonderful family location.
ReplyDeleteI use to walk very often up on the hills and moors where we live Marlene. Dogs are banned because it's sheep pasture and I get bored walking on my own. Dogs are allowed on the excellent greenways and we always end up having conversations with fellow dog walkers, joggers, cyclists and walkers. Plus it's flat and your never far from a town or village for refreshments. You can even hire electric bikes and some of the old railway stations have been converted into cafes and there are Portaloos. The greenways have been really well planned and well thought out. You can even catch a bus on the main roads near by.
ReplyDelete2 lovely dogs. Lucky having living with you in that lovely area of Iteland
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda. Our pets and other livestock keep us occupied.
ReplyDeletePets are wonderful at getting people out and about.
ReplyDeleteSomedays it’s the only reason I have for getting out of bed.
I must feed them all
Yep. When kitty calls: "Feed Me!" Thanks Angela. My dear old Irish grandma use to feed and water the liv before her self.
ReplyDeleteThat greenway is such a beautiful walk, lush and green and of course, that stonework always catches my eye. So...did Diesel and Bronte get Maccy Donalds?
ReplyDeleteThe Greenways don't feel so isolated like the rural walks do Debby. Yes they got their Maccy Donald's treats.
DeleteThe dogs probably enjoy the craich too when they get to meet a new pooch.
ReplyDeleteI am sure they TM. It such a relaxing walk on the smooth and flat tarmac surface.
