A Butterfly Working In February.

Thanks for your comments and reading my last post.

I went over to my brothers house on Saturday,  I was busy planting up his new raised flower beds and plant pots.  We noticed this butterfly working hard.  Busily pollinating some heather flowers.  Anybody know what make/breed of butterfly it is?  I don't think its a Red Admiral.  Perhaps its a moth even?

Apparently butterflies don't have any real purpose except to pollinate and look beautiful and other creatures use their caterpillars for food.  Imagine being just a thing of beauty?

More bus stories tomorrow!

  1. I can never identify butterflies. I promised to buy myself a book on them but never got round to it.

    3. Out in your seven league boots in great weather. A jam buttie in your pocket! Don't laugh there was really a famous Lakeland fell runner from the back of Siddaw who used win championship races wearing boots and carrying two jam sandwiches in his shorts pocket in case he felt peckish.

    4. I think I saw him on Countryfile Gwil. I think those fell runners were mountain goats in another life. Amazing people!

  5. Looks like a Painted Lady to me Dave. Normally, in the U.K., they arrive in numbers in the second half of the summer so very early to see one now.

  6. I had to take off one layer when I went out today, arrived in the cinema and had to start peeling off top layer and put it in my rucksack. Good thing I arrived early to sort myself out. It is milder here today too. wet at first, but then dry and bright. That butterfly looks like the sort we see a lot of here in the summer but don't know the name without looking it up.

  7. They're great rucksacks Rachel. I have seen them in March before but never in Feb. It must be the mildest winter on record here. There's rain forecast for the rest of the week. We'll see. Thanks.
