A Ruined Castle On The Mizen Peninsula.

We went for a run out to the next peninsular: Mizen, this afternoon.  We visited Dunlough Castle also known has Three Castle Head.  It was originally built in the 1200s by the Mahoney Clan.  It's a dry stone wall construction and is now in ruins and one of the oldest Northern castles in Ireland.
Looking out to Dunmanus bay or was it the Celtic sea?
The magical ruins overlooking the lake.  There is supposed to be a ghost lady of the lake.  If you see her apparition you will soon die!  Flipping heck.
A goat or sheep track for us walkers.  Not for the faint hearted or people with limited mobility.
Looking over to our Sheepshead peninsula.  Where my daddy was born and where I live now.

  2. Hi Susan. A dry day and not too hot for walking and scrambling up tracks to the magical castle ruins. A natural cliff promontory castle made with dry stone walls. I am glad I wasn't one of the labourers quarrying and carrying the stones. Thanks!

  3. I just love West Cork. When we lived in Cork (city) we tried to get out there as often as possible provided the mess of our old car would take us - and back. It's four years now since I've been there last. And it'll be some time until we'll come again. Lucky you!

    1. Hi Sabine. Ireland has had two good summers in a row. You can fly from Frankfurt Hahn to Kerry. Cheaply with Ryanair. Its only an hour and half. I did it when I went to Loreley. Thanks Sabine.

    2. Two in a row! Brings back memories of the great summers of 1976 and 1983. Not to forget 1995 of course.

Have you been to see the Sky Gardens outside Skibbereen (Liss Ard estate)? Best on a clear day.

    3. Yes I remember 1976 when I lived in England. 2018 was the hottest summer in eighty years in Ireland. I have seen pictures of the sky gardens but never visited them. Thanks Sabine.

  4. What stunning scenery. Don't think that path would be for me though. I would soon be falling head over heels

  5. Thanks Linda. Its nice scenery on a nice day. Its hard going in parts. Four legs are better than two on walks like this. Thanks!

  6. I have a friend who commandeered a few other women to "go to Ireland while we still can get around!" How I wish I had joined her.

  7. Hi Joanne. You should visit Ireland. Away from the cities rural ireland is very underpopulated. But you need to hire a car. Its full of ancient places. A lot of which are free or just a few Euros to visit. You would need a fortnight to visit it proper. Thanks!

  8. So you walk in your fathers footsteps and sense the energies that fed him and experience everything within your soul perhaps ?

  9. I often think that I am walking in my fathers and ancestors footsteps Heron. I love visiting ancient places and pondering how they much such awesome earth works and stone constructions. It must have took years to construct and at what cost both financially and blood, sweat and toil. Thanks for your comment.

  10. I didn#t spend enough time in Ireland so I'm grateful to you for your pictures and descriptions. I've spent most of my life saying 'when I go back to....'

  11. Glad you enjoy them. Seems a popular subject: Ireland. The rain came back today and it doesn't look good for next week. At least the flowers and fruit and vegetables get a welcome soak and drink. Thanks!
