I loved Hardy's novels but, no, I would not have wanted to live in those times. I would have been one of the peasants rather than from the Big House and probably would not have enjoyed my life as a lowly servant or peasant girl!

DeleteThere would have been attractions, it's true but the poor - both urban and rural - lived very hard lives in those days. I have always liked Hardy's novels and also the poetry he w rote in old age.

I got diagnosed with HSV, and reading this actually made me feel like crawling and crying like a baby.
