I noticed the Shasta Daisies have started to flower today. They are named after the snow capped mountain in California.
I love them and they are very easy to propagate by division or cuttings. They are quite drought tolerant and they survive the Atlantic gales we get every Autumn to March and sometimes May like this year.
I love perennials because they are such good value for money and best of all they come back every year. They also make a nice cut flower.

The simple answer to your question is - No, we do not have shasta daisies in our garden...but we have a gnome called Alan who gets up to all sorts of tricks while we are sleeping.

ReplyDeleteYour so right Valerie about letting the wildflowers do what they want. I have an overgrown field and the amount of wildflowers and wildlife is incredible. I never understand how silage is allowed to be cut so early in the summer when wildlife like hares and ground nesting birds are rearing their young. The old hat meadows were more nature friendly.

Hi JP. Thanks for commenting again. They divide easy in Spring and Autumn but you can also propagate them by cuttings when its cooler, say late summer when you can over winter them in a greenhouse or polytunnel. Thanks.

The markets in Athens used to have bunches of daisies on sale, probably still do. Only roses and bougainvillias around here now - mainly
