Smallholding And Site Gloves Tips.

I mentioned on a comment yesterday to Linda (Local Alien) how my finger nails felt like they were dropping off when I was picking vegetable leaves to feed the rabbits.

Then I remembered this gloves tip I was shown when I worked once picking up wood and rubbish on a derelict hotel site here in West Cork.

Get yourself a pair of surgical/ disposable gloves and put your hands in them:

Disposable gloves.

Then put your work gloves on over them:

Your work gloves can get wet or cold but your disposable gloves will keep your hands warm and dry all day.

This morning I remembered my gloves and my hands were warm as toast picking the rabbits their breakfast.

Two layers gardening!

  1. Surgical gloves should only be worn by surgeons. I imagine your hands started trembling after too many bottles of Newcastle Brown Ale Dave - so you had to give up and retire to West Cork. Were you a brain surgeon?

  2. Nothing so grand YP. Gardener, labourer, Greenkeeper, writer, hiker, prog rock and real ales enthusiast. Wish I could get some Newky Brown down here.

  3. Double insulated...clever.
I wear two pairs of socks when out and about in this weather. Toasty toes!

  4. Thanks JayCee. Since my camping and Prog rock festivals and literary tour in Ingerland I have been known to go to bed with my jumper still on. It certainly saves on central heating. Not that we have ordered any heating oil yet. Batten down the hatches tonight Storm Bert is on the way!

  5. Good idea. Those rabbits are waiting.
I've got these trendy fingerless gloves for the winter. Absolutely useless. Your hands are warm and your fingers go white. I partially undid one pair and reknitted the ends and turned them into Mittens. But I don't like Mittens either though they're warm. I wear them sometimes, if it ever gets that cold here, when I'm walking.
    Your double gloves are inspired.

  6. I always wear an hat and I always wear gloves on the smallholding or in the garden Linda. You never where there's been a rat and they protect against cuts and scratches. Hats are important when walking because you lose heat through your head. Also if I am gardening and a branch catches my head it will take my hat off instead of injuring me. I buy big bags of work gloves at car boot sales. Knitted gloves would make great Christmas presents. I must find my gloves for when I am walking.

  7. I wear disposable gloves for mucky jobs. Double gloves sound good.

  8. Double gloves definitely work. There's nothing worse than wearing saturated and freezing cold work gloves all day Jabblog.

  9. I use B&Q site brand gloves, not fully waterproof but better than most, I have an allergy latex, so I can't wear most waterproof gloves. I have 3 pairs of gloves on the go, so when one pair is wet, I change them.

  10. I often have a few pairs of work gloves on the go or in the washing machine or drying Marlene. It's worse when you are working for someone and only have the one pair of wet and freezing cold gloves. Thanks.

  11. Good thinking. I should wear work gloves my hands are a mess and the skin keeps wanting to split!🤨

  12. Yes TM. You never know what you are touching especially when you are working outside. Rats and mice are everywhere and it's better to get a thorn in your glove than your fingers. I would recommend welders gauntlets when handling Gorse.

Tight Wad Christmas Tree.

No not the name of a Prog rock band, although  it could be🤔? More like a bit of fun on my part. Someone in the Northsider Towers household...
