GZ over at Ook blog feaured an Oriental box on her last post.
Here's some Oriental items we have collected over the years from flea markets, car boot sales and charity shops:
Very old Tea urn.Geisha girls and my reflection.
Mount Fuji.
Oriental vases.
We also have 4 or 5 large willow pattern serving plates. Big enough for a big chicken or Turkey. They are very old. I will dig them out some time and wash them and show them you.
Any one else collect Oriental items?
I like your collection, Dave. Perhaps once you have washed them you should use the serving plates more often?
ReplyDeleteP picked up a couple of blue and white oriental pieces from the tip many years ago and I still have them on my bookshelves.. One is a jar with a lid (similar shape to your first photo but no handles), and the other is a short round lidded bowl with holes in it, which I use for tea lights.
Any chance of you featuring your items in a blog post JayCee? There's plenty of willow pattern that was made in the potteries in England. Some of it is worth thousands of pounds. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteMy Mum bought me a willow pattern plate when I was a child. I had been told the story at school and was fascinated by it. I still have the plate and lots of other blue and white bits and pieces as it sparked a real love of oriental style blue and white. I only have a couple of genuine oriental bits.
ReplyDeleteMy parents had original and reproduction willow pattern plates Tracy. We would go on family holidays in Scarborough and we spent many an hour in Peasholm Park looking and exploring the Japanese themed gardens. I would love to visit the Orient. Keep collecting it Tracy. Thanks for commenting.
ReplyDeleteIf I visit a flea market, I expect to purchase fleas. If I want oriental bric-a-brac, I go to an oriental bric-a-brac market. The clue is in the name.
ReplyDeleteBut like you pointed out before YP. You can not purchase a car boot at a car boot sale. Also Selfridges do not sell fridges.
DeleteBy the way, what was the score at Wembley last night?
Delete5 to Ingerland and 0 to Eire. Incidently the England Managers Grandmother comes from Dunmanway here in West Cork. I would have been happy who ever won.
DeleteYour collection is very nice and it gives you obvious pleasure. Can't ask for more than that!
ReplyDeleteThanks Debby. I only buy and collect what I like. I have very eclectic collecting taste like my music likes.
ReplyDeleteI have a couple of things from my parents - Lithophane tea and coffee sets from the 1930s, probably made in China, a silver condiments set in the form of a rickshaw man, and cloisonne cigarette box and ashtrays bearing dragons. None of it is worth anything more than sentimental value.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see the rickshaw man condiments Jabblog? Sentiment is priceless.
ReplyDeleteI have a "Thousand Faces" tea set that was handed down from my great-aunt. The only pieces left are a large tray, teapot, sugar bowl, small plate, cup and saucer. I'm wondering if any of my children will want it. It's really lovely.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds lovely Anonymous. I want a few pieces of Clarice Cliff. Thanks for your comment.
