I got tired of looking at what I had for my tea yesterday. So I have posted this 6 hours early for your perusal.
Back to the grind.
I have not mentioned my perennials on my polytunnel for a while.
The other day it was dry and I decided to start tidying up the perennials in my carboot sale plant nursery. This use to be two lawns and then I put down some black plastic sheeting and I quickly filled my second hand plant pots with perennials and shrubs that I have propagated myself:
Making a start on the perennials and shrubs.I have quite a few casualties from the usual very wet winter. I composted any dead or old plants and saved the plant 🪴 pots to make new plants. At least they will make space for all the new propagated shrubs and perennials in ye olde polytunnel: " Portugal".
There's quite a lot of new plants overwintering in the polytunnel. Shall we have a look:
A pretty fully polytunnel.
That would be me!
ReplyDeletePerhaps you could sell more veg at the car boot sales instead of plants? People may snap up your home grown organic goodies
Carboot sales have gone real bad JayCee. A lot of people want to pay next to nothing for anything. When I lived in Cheshire we use to go to some posh carboots like one at a rugby club. This was very middle class and you could get good money if you were selling and quality items if you were buying. It's a bit like my ECCO shoes blogpost. When J bought the shoes from a upmarket charity shop in Knutsford. I could sell at markets but then I would need to put my prices up 100 percent. Thanks for the advice.
DeleteYou can buy really cheap vegetables in the likes of Aldi and Lidl for 49 Cents JayCee. We often buy them during the ' hunger gap' before we start harvesting our fresh ones. There's not much in the veg plot growing at the moment apart from Brussel sprouts and leeks and my Japanese onions and some variety of Italian cabbages. Tye chest freezers are full of our homegrown pork and bacon and vegetables.
DeleteI like the greenery as I've said so many times. I'm not a gardener, just dabble. If things grow and thrive I jump for joy. At the moment I'm collecting coffee grinds for the compist
ReplyDeleteI think people spend less and less on their gardens Linda. I would love a gardener job at a big house or hotel or writing for a gardening magazine. Have you asked cafes and restaurants for their coffee grinds?
DeleteI think that a good alternative hobby for you would be embroidery - creating scenes of rural Ireland on cushion covers. You could sell them to passing American tourists seeking their Irish roots. Maybe Joe Biden would buy one even though he is about as Irish as an Emperor Penguin.
ReplyDeleteKing Charles is a direct ancestor of Brian Boru YP. Obama, Reagan and Kennedy all claimed to have Irish roots. The Irish diaspora is said to be ninety million around the world. Ten percent of England's population is said to have Irish roots. Perhaps writing blogs will make some money? I have been writing them over fifteen years and I haven't made any yet.
ReplyDeleteGrow plants to reforest Ireland - and possibly shelter Portugal from the worst of the gales.
ReplyDeleteWe would get the wolves back if we planted the trees TM.
ReplyDeleteME!!! I SAID THAT! I am finished being cold. Enough of that nonsense! All joking aside? That tunnel is wonderfully green. I would pull myself up a chair and have some plant therapy!
ReplyDeleteI think we all said that Debby. It's all wet and turned to gutter here today. The polytunnel is a good place to garden and listen to some rock music on Spotify. Perhaps I should take some beer and sit down at one of my tables and drink a bottle of win or swig a few cans of Guinness? That sounds a good idea. I need to relax and wait for spring.
