More Irish Stuff.

On the last day of our February holiday in the Algarve we walked around Faro town.

It began to rain and we saw an Irish bar.  Like an oasis in the desert or manna from Heaven.  We walked inside.

The girl behind the bar was Portuguese and was lovely and could

You have seen this one before.

not do enough for us and made us most welcome.

She poured me a pint of the black stuff.  Exactly like it's poured here in Ireland.

My pint of Guinness was 5 Euros.  You would pay at least 6 Euros here in Ireland.  Crazy isn't it?

I always like going in Irish and English pubs when I am abroad.

  4. Exactly Linda. We always feel at home in Portugal. The Irish pub was the icing on the cake.

  5. Other than Dublin the only Irish pub I have been was in Philadelphia, the atmosphere like I Dublin was brilliant, I didn't try the liquid black stuff.

  6. You get a good welcome and great food in Irish pubs anywhere Marlene. I once went in one in Calais and none of the Oirish pub staff spoke English just French. They understood our gesticulating large and small beers and laughed.

  7. I've never been in an Irish Pub Dave - only Irish themed pubs in other countries. What I really want to experience is an Irish local in a small rural village somewhere in a hard to get to part of Eire (does such a place exist?)

    1. They do exist TM. Often Sky News is on the television. A lot of the rural pubs are only open at night at the weekends sadly.

  8. Did you have a bowl of salt in the Irish Salt Bar? Irish salt is some of the best salt in the world. Better than the salt they sell in either Salt Lake City or Saltaire near Bradford.

    1. The pub in Faro is a former salt factory YP. Sea salt is the best.

  9. I'm ashamed to admit, I kept wondering why I've been seeing Guinness in the supermarkets here this week :) I'll get my coat.

  10. It's supposed to have been originally brewed in London Jules. Why do the English not celebrate St George's Day and William Shakespeare's birthday? Any excuse for a day off and a party.
