Peas 🫛 growing in compost filled modules.
I grew them in my indoor potting shed/ small bedroom or "Chitting Room".
They will get planted out in the next day or so. Then I will plant some more in the module trays.
I have plans for making a greenhouse with some repurposed upvc windows. Number one son is going to weld me a frame made from galvanised box iron. That's a blog post for another time.
Peas are members of the legume family. They originate from the Mediterranean and were no doubt brought along the Silk Road with spices, coffee, Hoover bags and Pot Noodles? I am joking about the Hoover bags!😃
Legumes extract nitrogen from the air and releaze it into the soil through their root nodules. They are one of the few vegetables that a tually replenish the soil when they are growing in it.
Have you sown and planted your peas yet?
I have been very busy working for people and myself this week. There is always something to do at this time of year.
I do so love eating peas freshly popped from the pod. When we grew our own, P had to shell them because I would eat them all!
ReplyDeleteYes JayCee. We are the same. You can't buy that freshness in the shops. It's like tasting spring water.
ReplyDeleteI've not sown my peas yet or my runner beans, I aim to sort them I a couple of weeks. My flower seeds are growing well, I need to pot them up, my greenhouse is full, your plans for a greenhouse sounds great.
ReplyDeleteI would love some fresh peas. I remember them from my father's garden. A wonderful summer taste
ReplyDeleteYes there is plenty of time to plant and sow Marlene. After the disaster of my polytunnel getting damaged. I am getting excited about the prospect of a solid greenhouse. Hopefully we will get there soon to plant the tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteYou should grow them Linda. They are like a glass of Spring water.
DeleteNice legumes Fave. Do you ever eat pea sprouts? I've just lost my first two kale plants to black field crickets and I am on the warpath... get me some chickens... you have reminded me that I could try some autumn sown peas and broadbeans.
ReplyDelete. I have been thinking about some autumn sown onions too.
Japanese winter onions are worth growing TM. Green manures are also worth sowing. I have grown mustard. This deters wire worm in old grassland. But it is a brassica so you would grow something different like potatoes.
DeleteThis blogpost has reminded me that I need a pea. (Two minutes later) Ah! That's better!
ReplyDelete"Peas 🫛 be with you."
ReplyDeleteI planteed my first batch anout 10 days ago, I will plant the 2nd batch today, they all seem to be nice and bushy. I will plant anothe batch of seeds, I like to keep them coming and plant various varieties.I think I will risk the tomato plants into the tunnel also, before they get to leggy.. Squash courgette and sweet peppers will have to survive on the window sills for the moment.
ReplyDeleteOld crowd control or cattle panels are useful for making tunnels also.
Walk in beauity

Hi Kathy. It's nice here today. You can never have enough fresh peas can you? I am going to use plastic sheeting for the greenhouse roof. It will be good to sit in and have a drink along with growing stuff. I can't wait.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get a bumper crop to enjoy
ReplyDeleteThanks Angela.
