The Portuguese Lidl And The Irish Lidl Price For A Bottle Of Wine.

Another picture from the Algarve last week:

This is a Portuguese white wine J likes.

In Lidl Algarve it costs 1.79.  In Lidl in West Cork it costs 7.99 for the same bottle.

According to Google the Irish government put 3.19 tax on a bottle of wine.  So it should be 4.98.

So even with the tax added it is 3 Euros more in Ireland.  I know the transport costs will be higher.  But can they justify such a price hike?

The Euro goes a lot further in Portugal 🇵🇹 than it does in Ireland 🤔.

  1. That's a big difference. You definitely need to move to Portugal.

    1. Isn't it just JayCee? The Euro is worth more and less depending on the country you are in. Places like the UK, Germany and Ireland are very expensive places to live.

  2. Ye gods and little fishes. That's a huge price difference. A bottle of the cheapest wine in LIDLs here is around 2.00 euros here. I like Portuguese prices better.

  3. You get the sunshine and cheap prices in Poros Linda. 2.00 Euros is very good.

  4. It's a crazy world we live in, tax is very high on beers, wines and spirits.

  5. Totally agree Marlene. I bought a pint of Guinness in a Irish bar in the Algarve for 5 Euros. It's at least 6 Euros here in Ireland.

  6. They call it a European "union". Well, if that really is the case, how come there are so many price differences between EU countries?

  7. Exactly my thoughts YP. One hundred Euros is worth only 83 Pounds. The minimum wage in Portugal is 4.44 yet it's all relative and food and drink and rent prices are better than ours. The Euro or union is not a level playing field.

  10. I imagine it will be cheaper than a bottle of water.
