(Butcher Counter Only)?

Call me stupid but?  I was reading the above supermarket advertising leaflet this morning and I noticed (Butcher Counter Only).  Where else would you get meat from?

I asked the wife and she explained that it means it's not pre packed.

Like a lot of men in Ireland I don't  do 'food' shopping very often.  If I go in Aldi or Lidl I dart to the middle aisle for walking, gardening and DIY stuff or maybe have a mosey at the drinky poohs section.  The wife meanwhile will go round EVERY aisle pushing her shopping trolley.  I sometimes wonder if she is programmed to shop?

At least she understands what (Butcher Counter Only) means?

  1. You and Mrs N have different skill set. You tend to your plants...she'll take care of the shopping.

  4. Gosh. I even see Organic vegetables packed in plastic. The world's gone mad. Unbelievable.

  5. When I was working my dear husband used to do all the food shopping. It saved me a lot of time but I became tired of pies and sausages all the time. No healthy options on P's shopping lists!

  6. P's shopping list sounds like mine with a few tinnies thrown in JayCee. I could easily dine and drink in Wetherspoon's or nip for a kebab and onion bhajis every night. Shame we don't have any in the countryside next to the sea.😊

  7. The reason I like Aldi is that it has everything essential but less choice than the bigger supermarkets - sometimes too much is not a good thing.

  8. I agree Mark. We use to visit Sainsburys supermarket when we lived in England and we could vegetables from anywhere in the world. We also use to shop in Netto. I think it was Norwegian owned? These days we mainly shop in Lidl in our nearest town. I liked Asda also especially for my bottles of Newcastle Brown.

  9. I would have thought that a butcher counter was a akin to a train spotter. Someone whose hobby is locating butchers and counting them. I wonder if you can buy Panini sticker albums for your butcher pictures.

    1. Very clever YP. Like a lap counter. Bus spotters are a strange anorak character. Do you remember Esso football coins?

    2. I am too young to remember Esso football coins but I can remember Tamagotchis - even though I was very young when they came out. I can also remember The Spice Girls. I liked Marjoram Spice best of all.

  10. Husband does our supermarket shop once a week, he knows where to find everything on the list I give him, and buys only those items. I really dislike shopping!

  11. Hi the veg artist. I can't say I'm fond of supermarkets either. Perhaps if they resembled Argos or a builders merchants? You give them your order and they go and get it all for you. Oh to go back to corner shops like "Open All Hours".
