A Trip Over To A Beach On Mizen.

Myself and J and our canine friend drove over to Mizen on Tuesday afternoon.  This is is the last Peninsula next to ours in the Southwest of Ireland.

We drove through Schull and Goleen to Barleycove.  The parking is free and there are no real facilities but it's relatively quiet and a nice place to pass an hour or so.

Google photos reminded me we visited Barleycove this time last year.  There must be something working in my subconscious to visit in June?🤔

It was a nice way to have a walk and look at the sea.  Not that I don't look at our bay every day!😊

  1. That last one is a great photo of the bay. It looks very peaceful there even with those hardy souls braving the cold Atlantic waters.

  2. The wife took the last photo JayCee. There weren't many bikini clad young ladies or a chip shop or a "kiss me quick" hat to be seen. There's a lot to be said for Blackpool or Scarborough and a Wetherspoon's pub.😊

  3. The fellow on the floating walkway sign looks drunk. He must have had a few bottles of Newcastle Brown Ale in the sand dunes caused by the tsunami that followed the Lisbon earthquake in 1755.

  4. What on earth is a kiss me quick hat?! I loved the floating alley sign. You are very fortunate to live so close to the ocean. I envy you and Mark for that.

  5. Or Murphy's stout YP? I've seen the scars of the 1755 earthquake in Slives in the Algarve. Incredible that the beach in Barleycove in Southwest Ireland was formed from the same Tsunami in 1755. Thanks!😎

  6. Google kiss me quick hat Blackpool Debby. The Daily Express culturally referred them to being one step up from wearing a knotted handkerchief on one's head. It's good to live in the countryside next to the sea but it can be scary during the gales in winter. Thanks.

    1. What's wrong with wearing a knotted handkerchief on your head? When out walking in sunshine I prefer it to a proper hat because it's light and white. All proper Yorkshiremen wear knotted handkerchiefs in the summer. Sod "The Daily Express"!

    2. Nothing at all YP. String vest, rolled up trouser legs and a kitchen chair for a deck chair. Welcome to that familiar resort: our gate and kerbstone edge!😊

    4. Not at all YP. The length of Summers that we get isn't worth spending well earned brass on designer clobber.😊

  7. The floating walkway looks interesting. I presume you didn't go swimming

  8. It was strange to walk on Linda. Square plastic filled with water. No rolled up trouser legs or a knotted handkerchief to be seen.😊
