"Psst. Want To Buy A Cardboard Box?"

You know the tale of the Spiv selling seagulls on a seaside pier?   "Do you want to buy a seagull gov?"

"How much?"

"Ten bob".

"Go on then.  Which one's mine?"

" That one up in the sky!"

We were in a shop in Killarney and we saw this:

A empty cardboard box with stars on the lid for 5 Euros or four Pounds twenty five pence.  Just so you can put your presents in it.

Stop the world I want to get off.  Whatever happened to a shoe box or even a black bin bag to put your presents in?

Next Saturday it will be Christmas day and children will rip open  their Christmas wrapping paper, take our their presents (plastic junk) and sit in the cardboard box it came in and play in one for hours of fun.

But seriously don't  you think five Euros is a bit steep for a cardboard box?

  3. Far too much but the xmas bags here are just as expensive. I buy the cheapest rolls of xmasp paper I can find and hoard old bags, ribbon and tinsel. The result, I reckon, is far more festive.

  4. Your wrapped presents sound good LA. We buy cheap Christmas wrapping paper in January for next to nothing. Bin bags are ideal too. Thanks.

  5. As the say 'There's none queerer than folk' My presents were always in a pillow case when I was a child.
When we go to the garden center there are boxes galore for anyone to take, I often take one or two to give the cats a bit of fun.
But I have a daughter who would probably fall for these boxes, lol

  7. Yes pillowcases or even a stocking Briony. I swear by black bin bags. Kids especially aren't bothered about the wrapping when they see what is inside.

  10. F's walking boots came in a box that size. Just the right size for me, the Tigger. Boots cost €50, box was free ... or was it?

  11. I wrap. Tim uses gift bags. Sometimes he even sticks them under the tree in the store bag.

That's a lot of money for a card board box. My gosh. I always keep a few study boxes, flattened down, for times like these. Seems silly to spend money on a box when you think of all the ones that have gone into recycling.

    1. So true Debby. I wonder how much we pay pay for packaging and then to dispose of it? There's a lot to be said for having sheds to store stuff. That's my excuse anyway. Thanks.

  12. we have been collecting the boxes that the chicken corn comes in. Flat packing them. My sister is over the moon with them as there is no writing on them other than parcel tape. She has let the kids draw on the boxes for everyone. we have all of our kitchen cabinets cardboard to keep for the new kitchen garden area. So much cardboard

  13. Lasagna gardening is a good way of using cardboard boxes Sol. I find or have discovered you have to remove the sticjy tape because it doesn't decompose. I bet all your family are delighted with the kids hand drawn boxes.

    1. the little kids love it. I had an in depth description of one of my great nephews boxes, he had drawn dinosaurs. To make them for Christmas he added antlers. Makes perfect sense to me
