A Look In My Polytunnel On A Cold Winter's Day.

Snow has fallen through the ripped cover of 'Portugal' my poorly polytunnel pal.  The Japanese onions aren't bothered though.  It's probably the same weather where they originate from in Japan?
More Winter onions thriving under the plastic. It looks like the wind has been blowing plant pots about a bit.
A Osteospermum or Cape Daisy in flower already.  They originate in South Africa and not keen on the frosts on the Irish Riviera here in West Cork.

I always over winter tender perennials inside the tunnel since I lost most of mine in the Winter of 2010 and all my cuttings have been  made from two survivors when we had snow for two weeks.

Still no prospects of getting on any of the gardens.  Is anything flowering in your garden at the moment?  What's going on in your polytunnel or greenhouse?

  1. Nasturtiums and clover. I'm happy. They're green and lush

  2. We have one confused daffodil in flower, poking through the snow, plus a few snowdrops. Nothing else for the time being.

  3. The Confused Daffodils would be a good name for a band JayCee. I have seen daffs grow through tarmac.

It's good to see things growing at this time of year.

  4. No snow here (but mustn't brag). Heavy frost tho and lots of daffs about to flower. Hellebores and a few of what we used to call stylosis (no idea what the new name for them is, apparently they have been botanically 're-assigned'.) Nothing at all in the greenhouse unless you count a bit if grass that has crept in where the door doesn't close properly

  5. My polytunnel also got grass, brambles, weeds and some self rooted Ajuga plants growing in the spilt compost on the ground Tigger. I need to have a good tidy up and get some compost and start propagating now I can't do much in the garden. Thanks.

  6. Lord knows what is going on our greenhouse because Mrs Pudding yanked the door so hard that it is now stuck fast and the weather has put me off trying to fix it so far. Shame that glass only bends when it is in a molten state.

  7. You need to purchase a round Tuit Mr Pudding. I'm sure you will get around to it sometime. I usually leave things to Ron. Later on. I am thinking of making a man shed on my veg plot. Or maybe an old railway carriage like Uncle Mort had on his allotment in " I Didn't Know You Cared?" It's writer Peter Tinniswood used to write for the Sheffield Star.

  8. I don't have a polytunnel or greenhouse, but from my window I can see the oleander shrub and rows of white agapanthus. Elsewhere in the block there are purple agapanthus, roses and daisies.

    1. Hi River. We have blue Agapanthus somewhere in the garden which I forgot to over winter in the tunnel. Sounds like it's Summer where you live River? Thanks!

  9. Pots of last year's spring bulbs that Mr VA never got around to planting in the grass, and some hardy succulents and chives that live there all year round. Oh, and a small garden table and a chair!
