I took fellow blog readers advice and purchased some more seed potatoes.
Not the cheap ones we bought in Lidl recently. They had all been sold sadly. So we bought two 2 kg from a garden shop for 17 Euros. I nearly had an heart attack when I looked at the till receipt.
Any way I dug three trenches and planted the seed potatoes🥔 🥔.
I planted them south to north and raked soil over them.
That's another bit of the veg plot extended. Hopefully we will have some more early potatoes for tea.
I think I will plant some more onions 🌰 sets and some peas 🫛 in there next. We have them growing in the "Chitting Room" or my " Indoor Potting Shed".
Are you busy planting your vegetables at the moment?
17 euros??? Wow, that sounds a lot.
ReplyDeleteI am tempted to just buy a 2kg bag of our local spuds for £2 and leave them to sprout. Not sure how good the end result would be though!
You can cut seed potatoes in half to make them go further but there is a chance of rot. I have grown ordinary shop bought potatoes and they gave a decent crop if they get well fed and regular watering when they are flowering and forming tubers. Thanks JayCee.
ReplyDeleteI have runner beans and peas to start soon, everything else is in the ground. I have been digging up raspberry roots from around our garden, hopefully new plants later this year.

No I never explained myself correctly YP. It was for two 2kg bags. Tonight J informs me that we can buy Lady Balfour organic spudatoes from our favourite German garden centre and beer providers for 3 euros. So we are going to buy some and chit them and compare results. You are not dying your just getting old like the rest of us. I have been grafting all week for the world and his wife and myself. Will catch up with your blog and others soon.

Delete10 of my 12 peppers have sprouted, and all of my 3 varieties of tomatoes. Very happy!

ReplyDeleteIf you put a lot of it down to grass, maybe plant an orchard? It will be more manageable for the time being.
DeleteHopefully you'll be rewarded for your investment. I haven't had chance to sow anything outdoors just yet, and my strawberry seeds and peppers haven't shown any signs of growth.
