I recently placed some willow cuttings in an old plastic tub full of garden soil. Then I forgot about them for about six weeks. The other day I noticed all the cuttings had leaves. So I pulled them out and noticed they also had grown roots. My own portable hedge!
My very own portable willow hedge! The stones are free too! |
Nice cuttings Dave. I was wondering aloud whether I should do the same this year.
ReplyDeleteThanks Philip. They're so easy to take and they are free hedges. I do thesame with dog wood/ Cornus and Buddleia. Thanks!

ReplyDeleteYou can't stop willow. We just stuck pieces of willow in the ground at my last house and they grew into great big willow trees. No help from us, just left and before we knew it they were trees.
ReplyDeleteYes willow is a mighty tree Rachel. It likes drains and can play havoc to an houses foundations if planted too close or when its thirsty during a drought. Thanks Rachel.
ReplyDeleteWe have little need for hedges, but I've planted pussy willow for their spring buds and cottonwood to hear the leaves whisper, and paid the price years later in drain and septic invasions. But I liked them, nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteHi Joanne. Yes the willows can be invasive. Wonderful reasons for planting the pussy willow. Thanks.
