Visiting A Antarctic Explorer's Village In County Kerry.

Tom Crean's picture and pub sign looking through the Hydrangea.

We had a run out on Saturday.  We went shopping in Tralee and then we stopped in Annascaul.

Tom Crean's pub.   It was closed when we visited.

A warm Penguin welcome!

A stone from south Georgia.

Tom's bronze statue of him and his pups.

    1. Apparently YP the cows got into his father's potatoes patch and Tom and his dad had words and Tom joined the Royal Navy and became a legend.

  5. Years ago I listened to a reading on tape of the Shackleton story and cried when it came to the rescue. The physical toughness of the men and their mental bravery was really something else. And to think, having been to the Antarctic once, many went back for more! We went to a Shackleton exhibition in London years ago, husband being a history nerd. The clothing and equipment was all so basic and heavy, nothing like today's kit. It really puts modern living into perspective.

  6. Hi Veg Artist. Doesn't it just? Mental strength is sometimes equal to physical strength. What amazing explorers and navigators.
